If you can open the left face cover of your machine, you may be able to see where the presser foot mechanism is malfunctioning. Could have become disconnected.

How do I open my face cover and change the bulb?

Look for the hinge. It should open out one way or another. You might also look for screws. You may have to take screws out to open it. You are correct, prying is a mistake.

Where do you oil this machine -- it's not in the owner's manual.

Welcome to FixYa! on the list below is the steps to oil your sewing machine.

  1. Remove the screw from the top of the Janome face plate with a small flathead screwdriver. The face plate is on the top of the sewing machine directly above the needle.

  2. Pull the face plate up and away from the sewing machine gently.

  3. Face the sewing machine as if you were about to start sewing.

  4. Locate a small cylinder attached to the side of the sewing machine facing you that had been covered by the face plate. Apply one or two drops of oil to the top of this cylinder.

  5. Locate a small square that is directly above the needle of the machine, also previous hidden by the face plate. Apply one or two drops of oil directly above and below this square.

  6. Replace the face plate and tighten the screw.

  7. Open the hook cover of the sewing machine as if you were changing the bobbin. This area is located directly under the needle.

  8. Remove the bobbin case by grasping the lever on the case and gently pulling the case out from the machine.

  9. Remove the hook ring and the hook. These two parts are behind the bobbin case and should come out easily.

  10. Apply one drop of oil to the center of the hole the bobbin was removed from.

  11. Replace all of the parts you removed from the sewing machine.

Good luck

I have an Elna 6003Q sewing machine. My light bulb went out and I need to replace it. How do you get it out and replace it?

some call it a lamp cover door or face plate it's on the left side of the sewing machine
some sewing machines have a hinge at the back of the face plate, you can gently pull it open to change the bulb
some machines -in the middle of the face plate there is a plastic plug, use a screw driver to gently lift the plug & then unscrew the screw & change the bulb.put the face plate back on put the srew back in & put the plug back in to concile the screw

I have a Janome 5700, the light has burnt out and there is no directions in manual for changing it, I also cannot find the burnt out light. Can you help. Thanks Penny

Most sewing machine lamps are located inside the face cover on the left hand side of your machine. It should pull open as it is hinged at the back and clicks into place when you close it. The lamp will be visible to you when you open your machine. It will either need a bayonet or screw type bulb replacement. You will need to look at the broken bulb in order to see what type your machine needs.
If you look at page 4 of this manual, which is similar to your machine, you will see the face cover is part number 11. In the smaller picture below you can make out the hinge on the back of the machine that allows you to open the face cover like a door. Hope this helps!

Open face plate ?

There is a screw in the side cover of your machine. You can't see it because it is covered with a round piece of plastic and this Can be seen. To remove it, use a small thin blade screwdriver to lift it out.Find the screw and remove it. The cover will be a little difficult to pull off but not impossible.
By the way, Maxi lock thread is a 2ply thread made for overlock machines. It does not give as good a tension as 3 ply sewing machine thread and it is not as strong.
Coats and Clark makes a good quilting thread on a cone. It will cost more but should give you a lot less grief.
If thread is building up,it is lint and is usually caused by a sharp surface that it is passing over. Find the sharp edge and make it smoother.
