I cannot run any CDs or DVDs on my Acer Aspire 5742Z-4097 laptop. The drive opens, however, it does not detect any disks, nor will the disk automatically start.

These are typical symptoms of the drive itself having failed. Usually it starts off not wanting to burn dvd's then not wanting to read them. It can still read cd's at this point but eventually has problems with these as well. You may have seen errors or a lot of activity that also took longer to do the same thing and so on.

What happens is the drives read/write head gets out of alignment over time. DVD's need the most accuracy and fail first while the cd's are much more tolerant.

Unfortunately the only fix is replacement of the drive. The cost of the drive from a online laptop or parts place will be $50-$100. This is definitely something you can fix. You need to remove ONE screw, pull the drive out, and put the new one in and put that screw back in. The drive just pops in. Probably took longer to type this than it does to change the drive ;-]

Have a look online for the drive and keep an eye out for instructions on replacing it so you can see if you are comfortable doing it. Most places will have a pictorial guide and some have online videos. It really is simple so you can do it. If you do a search for laptop repair parts you will find several web sites. Just look for your model to find your drive. If you aren't find the contact button and email them. Most places are quite happy to help. Some places will have used drives while other will offer new parts for about the same price.

Rear Projection - Color convergence/bowtie effect

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you have to replace the convergence IC and also check the power resistor, if values are not exact you have to replace them. These ICs are located behind the black heat sink; you can see once you open the back off the TV. Also, the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder joints and please make sure to check the resistors as if they are shot the ICs might blow again. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components, if not then you should get this done by a professional. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is around $250-$300. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Samsung hcn5527w convergance factory reset

Sorry, I just saw this post.
I hope this helps.

Yes there is one more step. You should call the technician out and have them set up the Magic Focus adjustments. I have serviced these televisions for years and I have made this mistake and had to return to fix it. You should not have to pay for a rework. The technician should have done the complete job the first time.

I hope this helps
and good luck.
