Question about Compaq Armada M700 Notebook

Power Issues My Compaq Armada M700 has been having all sorts of power issues lately. It used to have problems coming on, but in the past week, it's been working fine. Then today it just shut off and won't come back on. When I put the battery in, the three lights above the keyboard (caps lock, scroll lock, and number lock) flash. And if the power cord is plugged into the back, those three lights are steady and the power light at the bottom right as well as the orange light saying that the battery is charging flashes. I know there is power, but the computer isn't actually coming on. What should I do?

I did try powering without the battery, and that didn't work either. I'll try and get a look at the motherboard.

I can tell you what caused your problem but i haven't figured out how to fix this. well you laptop thought that it was on AC power when in reality it was on battery power so when you plug in the ac it went dead no when to try to boot up you get those lights. i really wish i knew how to fix it but i know its a motherboard problem that started out from bad software settings.

Seems your laptop has been sufferd a lot by the power. i just suggested you to have your mother board check.I think there should be something wrong with your mother board. By the way, did you try powering on it without the battery? If not, you should have a try on that.

Armada M700 & Linux XP 2006

Yes I used the latest version of Ubuntu Linux.

Get it here
Ubuntu 8.10

You will need to install NDIS in linux after the install to use the windows drivers for your wireless card if you have one. Sometimes older wireless cards will work but most of the time you need the NDIS to use the windows disk that comes with your wireless device(if you are using one) Your hard wired ethernet port should be detected automatically as well as all your other drivers(since the machine is old)
Good luck..if you need any more help I will be around. No other compatibility issues exist, and it will run a lot faster than XP. I would suggest 512MB of Ram but 256 will handle it fine.

The screem has broken and it can not power on

well you need to get a new LCD panel for your Armada M700. You could get something like this from eBay:

(hurry....less than 8 hours left)

You could do this yourself if you are technically inclined.

Always start with the simplest solution first so start by cleaning all the contacts, AC adapter laptop plug, laptop socket, laptop battery contacts and battery contacts. How have you confirmed power output from the AC adapter? have you used a voltmeter to ensure you are getting power at the laptop end? Have you used a voltmeter to test the battery? Assuming you have tried all this don't forget that almost any component can interrupt power on some laptops, however you're 2 main culprits with this kind of problem are usually power controller (voltage regulator) and in some cases, on a laptop of this vintage, the charge controller built in to the battery. Try it with a different battery if you have one.

My Compac Armada M700 does not power up.

Had the same problem with My Compaq M700 No Boot Or Post. Battery Light Flashes 8 Times, Have to Wait 24 to 48 hrs sometimes longer to get Laptop to Start. Tryed the DC Converter Board Change No Difference same Problem. Noticed When Laptop Did Start Clock Time Was always a Little Off 2-4 Hours sometimes more. So Figure CMOS Problem With Time Issues. Read About Battery Memory Transitor Voltage spike Detection Issues Corrected With Newer Bios Flash at HP Supports. So I Flashed Bios With Latest 686h. During the First Boot After Reflash Battery LED Did flash No Start, After pushing the power button again it Started. And has Every since. So Far Laptop Now Boots Everytime and CMOS Checksum Seems To Keep Time Correct In Windows. The Bios Flash Corrects a Voltage Spike Detecting Transistor In The Charging Circuit. During First Start after flash Bios will run system test on the charging system and Correct CMOS. Worked for Me Hope this Helps a Few.
