Question about HP Pavilion dv9005us Notebook

Lcd is black on start up only after closing lid. HP dv9000

If I close the lid on my hp after shutting down, then when starting up again, the lcd remains black. I hear windows starting and all the lights on top and the power lights are on. I have to turn it off and on several times before the lcd comes on again. If I leave the lid up after closing, it starts up just fine. I've tried the static discharge procedure by pressing the power button, but that didn't work. What do you think?

Thanks for replying. It runs on vista and is a little over 2 yrs old. I checked the bios and it is up to date. I also did the reset without the battery as you stated a few times, but it never worked. If I never close the lid, the computer lcd starts up fine. I can place it into sleep or hibernation mode, and it wakes normally, but if I put it into sleep by closing the lid, the lcd reamains black when lifting up the lid and bringing it out of sleep mode. Other than software updates, I replaced the 1GB RAM to 2GB last spring. This problem started around the beginning of Dec. 08.

HP G62 black screen on start up

If it has no "ghost image" on the monitor, nothing, it could be a connection issue, a ribbon cable on the rear of the monitor, the inverter, a tiny switch the operates the on/off of the backlighting when the lid is opened or closed, sometimes located near the lid hinges. Have you tried a External Monitor? Take a look at this video, it may help troubleshoot the issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w

I have a HP Pavillion dv2000 that just went black on me. Power light is still on but the screen is black and not responding. please help.

Hi!

Most common cause for this happening is the inverter or backlight for your LCD screen has become faulty. It's quite a common problem & unfortunately the only way to fix it (if its outside of warranty) is to replace the LCD with an LCD kit which can be ordered through HP or sometimes through eBay.

Obviously if it's still within it's warranty perioud, contact HP Customer Support for a replacement/repair.

Hope this helps

My hp pavillion dv9000's hinge broke. But I was able to use it after. Then I tried to close it..and it just shut off and it will not come on. I want to know what I can do to fi it

HP *had* issued service alert 08112101 which covers the left display hinge failure.
HP Notebook Left Display Hinge Program
HP Pavilion Notebook
model series affected: dv9000, dv9100, dv9200, dv9400.

This program recently ended on May 31, 2009, but HP may still allow for a grace period.

Otherwise, you'll need the following:
Display panel back panel enclosure (single lamp) 432957-001
Display hinge kit (single lamp) 432963-001
LCD bezel w/ webcam (single lamp) 432955-001

Trained pro's should be able to do this in about 20mins, there is partial lower case disassembly and complete LCD housing dis/re-assembly.

Lid switch location??????????

HP DV 5000 LID switch location is here:
65cfd24.jpg

If You want test lid switch, just connect A+B together for a monent!
If the monitor flashes on...? Lid switch is faulty.
It is too dificult to change the lid switch, so the easiest way is connect these pins together forever. :))

Dont forget to turn off your notebook... he wont sleep anymore ;))

Lid switch location??????????

I had a similar problem with my HP/Compac nc4200. Every time I had had the lid closed, the display would be black for a couple of hours, and then work again. I realized that the machine belived that the lid was still closed, and started looking for the lid-switch but I could not find it! The answer is that there is no mechanical switch! In the lid by the microphone (3 cm from the left hinge) is a small magnet hidden and in the base unit by the switches is a magnetic sensor (probably a hall-switch). Over time the the metal next to the sensor has been magnetized by the magnet enough to activate the swith even when the lid is open. The solution was simply to take a magnet and sweep it over the area a copule of times, and suddenly the screen came back to life! I am not sure for how long this fix works, but now I know how to fix it again.
