My dvd player turns on but...

this is a civil case and fixya is not a court of law --it is unknown by your description the cause or what damage is done to dvd also would need dvd player diagnosed to know if damaged by other person

do you get any sound? how about flash a light at the screen and see if you can see any video. if you get sound and video on the sceen but has not light then either your light is bad or the p/s goin to it. if it is completely dead, then you should be able to test it by pluggin it into a power supply. if its still dead then you may have bigger problems. if you want to continue into it, please let me know. also let me know what you see.

See if you can find a replacement power cord/charger on ebay for that model for cheap.

It sounds like there's something wrong with the hard drive. You might have a dud, in which case I would call apple ASAP to see what they can do for you, but just make sure it's charged! Sometimes with electronics like this, no lights will come on or anything until it has enough battery life to support that sort of thing.. other than that, my only advice is to call a professional on this one.. sorry :/

I have this model dvd player and it has worked very well for over a year. Lately it has not had a picture but has had sound when fully charged. When the green light is on, it is charging. When the light goes off, it is fully charged (or should be). I plugged the wall charger directly into the dvd player and it works fine with pic and sound. I think maybe the rechargable battery is on it last legs. I am looking for a longer cig lighter charger cord to reach the headrest so kids can watch from backseat. I will be able to keep it plugged in to charger at all times. Hope this helps!

Check to see if the little button that the screen closes down on (which turns off the screen and only the screen) is stuck, or jammed under the little hole that it comes up.  This button is about the size of a pin on most DVD Players, and is located very close to the screen on either side.  

Battery back needs to be connected to the DVD player when charging. connect the batter pack to player. Run the DC/out from the battery pack to the DC/in in the player. plug the charger into the wall.

if that does not work, you have a bad battery

Sounds like an internal hardware issue, if you feel daring enough, try oppening the case and see if anything is out of place, otherwise, You can either take it back to the store for a refund/exchange or contact the manufacturer and tell them it is defective.  Usually if this is the case they wil;l send you a new one for free.  Good Luck ;)
