I had to jumper the drive to slow it down. Then it does not show on the first cmos screen with the dvd drive, but the system does show it in the boot order and does find it.

My HDD will going to corrupt, so i need to buy one, but i don't know that which HDD is compatible with my AMD Athlon XP 2000 PC. Could any one suiggest that how much maximum capacity HDD Support my PC....

Hi,
Hard Disk upto 500GB capacity can be added to most of the PCs. As regards compatibility, first you have to check the motherboard for SATA Hard Disk interface as newer hard disks are SATA. Adding the hard disk has nothing to do with the processor. However, motherboard should have the connecting port/ option (such as SATA). Some motherboards support both IDE and SATA devices. Please check the motherboard for SATA Port. You may find the motherboard model/ system model and google a bit for its specification. (You have mentioned AMD Athlon XP 2000, which is the Processor not the motherboard)

If SATA is available on your motherboard, you may add Sata drives of 250-500-750GB drives according to you requirements. Otherwise you have to look for IDE hard Disk.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

I just got a usd m957g in an Xblade tower ...and it wont boot i have no beep on power up all the lights are on and i hear the hdd spin up! any one know what i shod do?

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
hope this helps

ASUS P4S533 BIOS is not recognizing my new SATA HDD, what do I need to do to fix the problem? The BIOS is vesion 1007. Thank you.

That's because it didn't come with a sata connection. I downloaded the manual & this board isn't sata compatible.

IS HD161HJ COMPATABLE WITH MS-6741

Be sure that SATA is enabled in your BIOS settings. Sometimes if the computer ships with an IDE drive, the company that builds them will disable SATA in the BIOS. Also, while you are in your BIOS, if you decide to use just the SATA drive, you need to disable your IDE and set the bios up to boot the computer from your new drive on the SATA connector.

Sir i have mercury motherboard kvm 800m series sata hard disk or 1gb ram not supporting me

Here is the link for your board specs: http://www.mercury-pc.com/product-detail.php?link=p-mainboards&subtitle=Mainboard&productid=644
Make sure your RAM is compatible to what the specs list. As for your SATA hdd make sure it is compatible to the board. A SATA II hdd is not compatible with a mb that only has SATA as they are not backwards compatible. Hope this helps.

Need to add SATA controller driver

Hi voyager99,
You can download the driver, (VIA 8237 SATA/RAID driver) from PC Chips but I doupt it will help.
If your bios did no see the 250GB drive than the onboard SATA controller is defective. This can not be fixed.
http://www.pcchips.com.tw/PCCWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?detailid=305&DetailName=Driver&MenuID=1&LanID=0
Running the SATA/RAID driver will most likely not help the bios see your drive.
Buying a PCI serial SATA controller card may allow your SATA drive run but it will run at the PCI bus speed. A decent controll card may cost as much as a new board that will run your current devices.

Good luck!

Pc-chip m957g

sounds like the motherboard has failed. I had those same symptoms this summer. Replaced m/b and it's good again.  Did you count the 'continuous' beeps? That's a code to say what is wrong.
