SOURCE: my pull cord on my craftsman mower broke and I

With all the side screws removed it should come right off. There will be a little resistance, but that's normal.

SOURCE: old craftsman pull cord

Your carbs main jet is blocked most likely.

Take the carb bowl off and look at the bolt near the top of the threads.
You should see a very very small hole. If you can see through it you need to clean it with a fine strand of metal wire.

Also work the float up and down to make sure it isnt stuck or unable to flow when the float hangs free.

Put it back together and try it out!

Good luck and be careful!

What to do when craftsman mower pull cord won't recoil?

Sounds like the spring inside the recoil has either broken or let go so it won't recoil. If you are lucky it could be the wheel that the cord goes on is seized or stuck. You can take the recoil off most mowers by taking out two or three screws and lifting it off the engine. They can be repaired but it takes time having to be careful the spring won't spin and hurt you. I have even taken a recoil off another engine and if the holes for the little screws don't line up just drill little holes beside the old ones and reinstall the little screws.
I even used a 18 volt cordless drill to crank the engine using the bolt on the fly wheel and the right size socket. Leaving the recoil off You have an electric start that way.

My Craftsman lawn mower starter cord doesn't retract after mower starts.

I have had this situation before on a lawnmower. I didn't have a craftsman, but is probably the same issue. Basically, the spring that recoils the cord back in either broke or came unwound. When the mower is not running, the cogs on the pull chord keeps the cord from coming out. When the mower is running, the spring is not wound enough to hold the chord in and thus releases or doesn't hold it in.
Try pulling the pull chord assembly off and rewind the spring.

How do I replace the pull cord on a craftsman 6.75 HP EZ walk?

Remove the three or four bolts holding on the pull cover and lift it off the mower.

Get a length of new pull cord and fish it into the hole the cord comes out of while passing it into the cord reel underneath the cover. There should be a hole in the reel where you can see where the cord should come out. Then you tie a knot into that end of the cord. With the cord now on the reel you wind it backwards with free end of the cable enough turns to **** in the free cord when you let it go. Usually 6-10 turns minimum. Remember to allow for the distance to the lawn mower handle! Unless your cord terminates at the top of the pull cover.

Good luck and be careful!
