Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. I turn tv on has sound, no pitcure what so ever. How do i know it's the inverter for sure?

i have the same problem it is most likely the y buffer if you take the back off of the tv from the back side on your left top is a panel with a 6 little radiators on it if one of them feels VERY HOT be carful it can burn you Then that is for sure your problem to trouble shoot this you can remove that panel and then turn on your tv if it has a little sparkling on the picture screen then thats your delima now the bad news i am having a heck of a time finding that Y BUFFER i can find all other buffers but not the y.

Wont come on and there is a blue light flashing

for more info on this set please check out http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/hitachi/38229-hitachi-p50h401-led-flashes-3-times.html
if will tell you how to trouble shoot this tv. these tv's are known for two caps in the power supply to go bad and they need replaced then you have to test the sdr buffer boards if they are bad you need replacement boards or you can send them off to be repaired.( Repairing the buffer boards is a lot less then replacing them ) the link for the repair guy is on the page. this guy also sells the repair on ebay but if you contact him directly i beleave the price is lower. just tell him you were send over by home theater shack.

Cd rom drive reads some cd's and not others

If those other discs are working in other cdrom drives then you could have a dirty cdrom drive, a laser failure, or it could be a firmware problem in that drive. Check the mfr's website for any firmware updates first. If that should fail, then you will need to replace the drive.

What's happening inside is, you have a laser inside that bounces a beam off the disc and receives the beam into a buffer. The beam scans for and detects "Pits" and "plateaus" on the surface of the disc (it's kinda like morse code on a plastic disc.) and the dots and dashes reflect into the buffer.

If you cannot read a disc, that means the laser is having trouble with either:
1. emitting the beam,
2. targeting the tracks where the pits and plateaus are or
3. receiving the beam into its buffer

SOMETIMES a burned disc is harder to read by a standard reader, but not often. Most times it is a sign of dirt on the buffer receiver, dirt on the lens, or inability to scan the tracks. Try using a cdrom lens cleaner, and update the drive firmware. if that doesnt help you, you need a new drive.
