SOURCE: I have a samsung 2.5

You dont need jumper settings for sata hard drive, the sata ports on *********** board have the configuration, just connect the new hdd to the 2nd sata port.

Sata cable & pata cable have a any jumper setting

Hi,
The hard drive / optical drive have jumper settings, not the motherboard. PATA has jumper settings, but SATA do not require any. The diagram of the setting is drawn on the hard disk itself below the serial number etc. For SATA, look on the motherboard for the SATA ports. Each port will be named as like SATA 0, SATA 1 etc. If you want the hardd disk to boot first, plug it in SATA 0. and the next device in SATA 1. However, you can also set the first and other boot device from the BIOS itself, in case of SATA.

Will K8MM-V MS-7142 Motherboard supports 500GB/250GB Sata 3(6gbps) Hard disk, by setting to 1.5gbps speed ?

The designers of SATA aimed for backward and forwardforward compatibility with future revisions of the SATA standard.[citation needed] To prevent interoperability problems that could occur when next generation SATA drives are installed on motherboards with legacy standard SATA 1.5 Gbit/s motherboard host controllers, many manufacturers have made it easy to switch those newer drives to the previous standard's mode. For example, Seagate/Maxtor has added a user-accessible jumper-switch, known as the Force 150, to enable the drive to be switched between 1.5 Gbit/s and 3 Gbit/s operation. Western Digital uses a jumper setting called OPT1 Enabled to force 1.5 Gbit/s data transfer speed (OPT1 is enabled by putting the jumper on pins 5 & 6). Samsung drives can be switched to 1.5 Gbit/s mode using software that may be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. Upgrading a Samsung drive in this manner requires the temporary use of a SATA-2 (SATA 3.0 Gbit/s) controller while programming the drive.

Sir, i have an msi n1996 (vt8237r & km400 8237) mother board. My sata 160 gb hdd is not getting recognized in bios. Pl. help. (it is reported somewhare on the net that i have to enter into the...

I enabled SATA support on my BioStar M7VIZ-SATA MOBO (it is km400 and 8237r, like yours) by first installing the VIA SATA RAID drivers. At this point, Windows recognized the device controller but not the 120GB drive. The problem was that the system doesn't support "newer" SATA drives, so I installed a jumper on the disk drive to set it to "150" mode... SATA version 1 compatibility. After that, Windows immediately recognized the drive and mounted the filesystem.

I think it was a Western Digital drive. Other manufacturers have a different name for the same jumper. Also, I read that one type (Samsung?) can only be set to the old SATA standard by getting the drive running in a SATA 2 environment, then using a utility program to adjust the drive's microcode setting.

Good Luck to you.

Jumper setting for slave drive

there is no such master or slave setting when SATA is used.
it is mainly used to tell the motherboard which one is master or slave when connected with IDE cable (PATA).
you don't need to worry about it as you are using a SATA HD.

the boot disk priority can be set in the BIOS
press del or F2 after you press the power button on CPU. you will be put with the BIOS/CMOS setup. go to boot priority and set accordingly, there is also an option to set the default hard disk in case you have more than one HD.

Im just about to buy a SATA II 500GB hard disk for this MB, i need to know if this would be compatible with the MB??! Thanks

SATA 2 (SATA 300) is not backwards compatible with a SATA (SATA 150) controller. In order to use a SATA 2 drive on a SATA (SATA 1?) controller, the hard drive must have a jumper position to restrict it to using SATA (SATA 150), and a jumper must be installed. Some drives have the jumper position available (e.g. some recent Samsung), some don't (e.g. some recent Maxtor).
This information can also probably be easily found on your hard drive manufacturer's web site.
If your drive does not have the jumper position available, you must return it and get a SATA 2 one that does, or a SATA drive.
