SOURCE: odor when air conditioner turned on

Hi, If its a smell other then electrical burning, I would say it is coming from the evaporator coil inside. Take out the filter and clean it if it is the washable type and try and clean the coil. They make coil cleaner you may be able to get at your RV dealer to do this. This is the only thing I can think of that would have any odor. Unless there is something outside it is drawing in. The system is sealed and would not emit any odors other then a hot motor. You can check up top by removing cover to check the motors and to see if any critters have crawled inside. Let me no, keep me posed on what you find and if you need more help.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
PS Check the indoor blower motor also, it may be getting hot and ready to fail.

SOURCE: we have a mold and mildew smell coming from our

You can shut off breaker to the unit and go on roof and remove cover to do a visual check under cover in drip pan etc, as well as shine a flashlight in where filter at ceiling goes to look at coils and fins (way up inside) for any sign of mold etc. The hard part here is that I am going to assume it is a ducted system, and we can't be sure the mold smell isn't coming from the ductwork. Hopefully you"ll see something when cover on roof is removed.
How old is the trailer?

There is a smell from the unit & a bang when turned on? Can you please advise me. Thanks Clare

If you are noticing a smell or strange sound , please shut down the AC at once. there it wil be easier to trace to the source of the smell and confirm what ccould be the fault. If can be the capacitor has leaked and made the value low so that the compressor is starting up with difficulty. If not check for failure of the fan motor/ wires that could have leaked. Whatever be the case it will be easy to find out and confirm but you must not run the ac without replacing the part to prevent further damage.hope you try this out/ Good day .

The air conditioner smells like burning plastic when you turn it on and smoke comes out the vent. What could it be?

The fan motor or some other electrical component. Either way I would quit using it until it gets fixed as an A/C unit is cheaper than a house.

The fan comes on, but air compressor wants to start but won't. Funny smell. Thanks Mike

It is likely the capacitor is faulty, when they go they usually heat up and burn hence the bad smell. If your unable to test the capacitor you can try replacing it with new. The capacitor at the compressor should state its value in micro farrads and a rating in voltage.

Air will not come out when turned on smell of burned oil. A/C is also effected

Do this.

1.)At your thermostat...Turn system switch to off position(dont have it in heat, cool, or auto mode).
2.)At your thermostat...put fan switch from auto to on position.
Do you have a indoor fan(is air coming out the small registers in ceiling or floor).
Do you smell "Oil" smell(most likely an electrical smell).

If you have no indoor blower, a bad smell, most likely your indoor blower motor fried, your control box has fried,or a combination of both.

Hopefully it's just a fan motor but the smell should go away after a bit.It shouldnt linger for days.

My guess if it lingers you burnt your transformer from a low side short.

Call a tech.

Check the location of your drain, it might be installed in a ditch or smelly location. Install "P" trap in the drain pipe pipe to avoid the smell coming back into the drain.

Have a strong smell of bakelite coming from vents with air cleaner on. What is the problem?

Something is hot inside. Turn off the air cleaner and run the fan on manual. If the smell goes away, have the unit cleaned and serviced. If it remains, your blower motor or belt is going bad.
