In addition to the slider, you will see a small slider that has a picture of a lock on it. You need to slide it to the unlocked position before trying to release the battery.
As I recall, there are 2 panels on the bottom of the machine. One should have a graphic representation of memory, but every manufacturer seems to use a different picture. Best solution--open one and if that's not it, try another! You can't hurt anything.

Installedmemory now pavillion ze4610 just beeps and shuts down.

Make sure your battery is removed, unplug, reseat memory mods, make sure they are inserted fully. I assumed the 512MB are used? New? There is no reason , that I can come up with, they should not work? I have upgraded many memory mods without incident.

How can i get to both memory slots so i can upgrade to 2GB of Ram? Thanks

Your laptop has two memory slots. One of the memory slots (external) can be easily accessed if you remove the cover on the bottom of the laptop.

The second (internal) memory slot is located under the keyboard.

Keyboard removal procedure:
1. Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.
2. Remove two screws securing the keyboard on the bottom of the laptop. These screws are marked with a small keyboard symbol.
3. Release 4 keyboard retention tabs located on the left side from f1, f5, f9 and delete keys.
4. Lift up the keyboard and place it upside down on the palm rest.
5. Unlock the keyboard cable connector on the motherboard.
6. Remove and replace the keyboard.

Hope this helps. Thank you for using FixYa.

How do you remove the battery?

There's usually a small latch on the underside of the laptop marked with a small battery icon. Push the latch to the side and the battery should pop out enough for you to grab a corner of it. Sometimes there are two latches, in that case they will be numbered for the proper order to trip the latches to remove the battery.

Good luck!!

remove the memory, hard disk, cd writer from the laptop. then try to switch on again. do it using the power adapter.

if it doesnt come on then its an internal problem. you will have to open the laptop case and remove all parts for test

Most likely a ram problem. Sometimes reseating the memory will fix the problem.

Remove and reseat the RAM On most notebook PCs, removing and reinserting the memory is a simple step and does not require advanced technical knowledge of the computer. HP recommends reseating the memory module before arranging for warranty service repair. If you are not confident following the steps for removing and replacing the memory module in this document, contact an HP support specialist for assistance.
NOTE: If someone other than HP installs or upgrades the RAM, any damage caused by the RAM and/or by the person when trying to install or upgrade the RAM is excluded from coverage under the product warranty. The customer assumes all risk and liability for damages for any such installation or upgrade. Some HP notebooks may have a secondary memory module located under the keyboard. For removal and replacement instructions pertaining to the second memory module contact an HP support specialist for assistance. WARNING: This product contains components that are easily damaged by Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, set the notebook on a grounded surface that dissipates any static charge, and wear an ESD wrist strap that is connected to a grounded surface, like the metal frame of a PC. Use the following steps to remove and replace the memory modules. These steps should be repeated for each memory module installed in your notebook. Step 1 - Remove the battery
  1. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the unlock position.
  2. Use your finger to lift the battery up and out.
Step 2 - Remove the memory module
  1. Locate the memory module cover on the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Remove the screw that covers the memory module.
  3. Use your finger or a flat head screw driver to lift the inside edge of the memory module and remove it.
NOTE: When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  4. Push both tabs outward simultaneously to release the memory module.
  5. Grasp the memory module by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  6. After removing one module, replace the memory expansion cover and then replace the screw.
Step 3 - Reseat the memory module
  1. Locate the memory module cover on the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Remove the screw that covers the memory module.
  3. Locate the alignment slot on the memory module and align it to the empty board receptacle.
  4. Grasp the memory module by the edge and push gently to install it.
NOTE: When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  5. Press the expansion memory board down to latch the tabs.
  6. After replacing the module, replace the memory expansion cover and then replace the screw.
After the memory is reseated, connect the AC adapter and turn on the notebook.
