Depending on your version of windows, I would trying starting in safe mode to see if the computer does boot. If it does, then you want to restart again, go to advanced boot options and select "start windows with last known good configuration." Access advanced boot options following the steps at this link. Need to Start Windows 7 in Safe Mode Here How
After it shows acer logo..Press F8 multiple times... (preferably 3 to 5 times)
a screen will show you multiple options.. Select Safe mode (this will be first option and then hit enter... It will show you your Window name (windows 7 / windows xp) press enter again and it will boot your window in safe mode
Apparently your Acer cannot find the operating system. As soon as the Acer logo comes up, there should appear in one of the bottom corners "F" & a number should appear. Immediately start pressing that F number (top row of keyboard). This should take you to a boot screen. Scroll down to boot sequence. Hit enter. Make sure boot-up sequence is CD or floppy drive first, second should be HDD, then escape. Restart computer. Should then boot off CD drive. I am assuming you have an operating system (XP, windows, etc.). Let me know if this doesn't work.

Hi what you can do is, after power up ( before windows xp logo appear) press F7 on keyboard and you will get advance mode choose last known good configuration and windows should start normally. If not try boot it up again and choose safe mode. If you still get problem let me know. Thank you for using fixya.com
To start the computer in safe mode 1. You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be available after you shut your computer down in step 2. 2. Click Start and then click Shut Down. 3. In the drop-down list of the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK. 4. As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press F8 when the boot menu appears. 5. Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER. 6. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.
You are probably heading for a reinstall of the os (or restore). You can try booting in safe mode (f8 after acer logo goes away, then arrow up on keyboard to safe mode (mouse wont work in this mode), then hit enter.
If this still doesnt work, check your manual on restoring your system.
While the system is booting --before the xp logo shows, hold down the F8 key. This will bring up a menu. Choose "start windows in safe mode with networking". The os will start in safe mode. run a virus scan, defrag and scandisk, then restart the system. If is still wont boot normally, do the same thing then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot. If it still won't boot you may have to reinstall the OS. good luck. PLEASE RATE THIS ADVICE WITH SOME THUMBS UP!!!
Try tapping F8 when the acer window shows, when it shows the muliboot option, scroll down to "Last Known Good Configuration" and hit enter. If it does not boot normally, you will have to get an external dvd drive and boot off the drive with a windows installation disc to perform a repair.
the reason for not seeing any picture on the external is becouse it is disabled in windows. I have 3 lcd screens here, only one gives picture untill I go and extend my desktop into the other monitors. from desktop -> right click anywhere -> properties -> settings ->
Id say the backlight is bad is your acer still covered by warranty?
