Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

2 Answers

Locks up and screen freezes. Will work after I push on it.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 Laptop. The problem? It locks up

When it locks up the screen freezes and absolutely nothing happens. I have to hold the power button to kill

When I try to turn it back on, the power light (only) blinks fast about 6 times and then goes off.

Now, if I lift up on the front of my laptop and press down on the right side of the touchpad near the bottom of the keyboard, it will start properly.

Not alot of pressure is being applied.

and this works without fail.

I have taken this laptop apart to see if anything is out of the ordinary. also unplugged and replugged everything (I could see) to make sure it was properly connected.

It is also very hard if not impossible to duplicate the problem

Thanks for your help

I have this same issue and have swapped both memory modules out with different ones. No change.

What I did notice is that if you let it sit for a while and cool down, it seems to start up without giving the flash-code. It still locks up anywhere from five to ten minutes after I boot up.

This is the second D600 that I've had this happen to. Don't know what the issue is so if there are ANY ideas on how to fix it, please let us know.

Have you added anything new ?

for locking up and freezing
in add/remove uninstall any programs you no longer need
then do a virus scan on the pc
restart then do a disk defrag
once you've finished these tasks do a windows update.
clean around the power button and your touchpad
i am not sure why you would need to press your touchpad
i will look into that problem
has it been dropped
please let me know

I think 6 flashes means memory issue. You might want to try and remove and re-insert the memory. Usually found underneath in a compartment held in with 1 screw. If this don't work, I would try and purchase new memory. This would be the cheapest and first thing to eliminate.

Try flexing the whole bottom assembly. that is with the laptop open put your knee in the middle and grab the unit with one hand on the corner closest to you and the other near the screen and put enough pressure to "flex " the mobo right after you push the start button if it doesn't start try it the other way... this has been working for my grandsons d600 for 6 months. i tried a new switch board because the guy that sold me the mobo said the plug for that is known to crack and that didn't fix it. good luck ps you will know it has worked when the 3 lock lights go out and the power light stays on.

Dell Latitude D510 Screen Failed

Hello,

The 14.1" inch screen is compatible with Latitude models D500, D505, D510, D600, D610 and Inspiron models 500m, 510m, 600m.

You may also need a screen inverter - in fact that is often the reason a screen is considered to be failing. The lcd inverter can be one of the most common items to become defective in a laptop computer. You may need a lcd inverter replacement if your screen is dim, dark, colored oddly, blinking, flickering or has dark stripes. Just something to keep in mind.
Hope this helps,

Chris

Laptop Display flashs then screen locks up

I wouldn't suspect its anything other than your lcd or inverter. Connecting it to an external monitor cements it. If it was the video card or motherboard it would have certainly done it again. For it to appear locked up would just mean the picture you are watching was the last in its memory to post. Meaning, if the inverter or lcd start having problems, the last thing it was told to display would appear to be frozen to whoever is watching but in actuality its the display not machine that is frozen. Try ejecting the cd tray. Better yet set your power button shut down when pushed. Then have it have another lock up watching a video then push the power button or eject to see if it responds. Then you will know forsure. Hope that helps.
