A laptop cushion is a death sentence for a laptop. Your computer is most likely overheating, and with a pillow or cushion there's nowhere for the heat to go. Those vents are there for a reason, and to be honest I haven't found one with a good enough design to keep it cool. If you keep it actually on your lap for whatever reason you could look into a laptop fan/cooler. I do most of my shopping on ebay so I'll include a link so you can see what I mean:
Start your laptop in safe mode. Run msconfig from Start -> Run. Click on Startup tab. Disable all items under startup tab. Restart and run your laptop in Normal mode. See if the problem remains
Sounds like you have a virus or spyware in the backgound. Open Task manager and check if there is any strange process. Also, Start, Run, msconfig, then startup, see what is staring up in the background. Run you anti-virus.
