SOURCE: Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.
Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.

christoph430. Your TV is hosed. Olevia will not fix it even if it is still under factory warranty. They are having lots of issues with their products and it will be too costly for them to pay for the repairs they should be covering. They are hoping you have an extended warranty through whomever you bought the TV from and will let that company deal with what should be THEIR problem. The repair company has to try to fix the TV at their cost. Nothing but a scam. We will never buy an Olevia TV again. Respond to rlarocque1@cox.net if you would like to understand details about our frustration with them. Unbelievable. Sorry for the bad news.

SOURCE: Blue Vertical Line on my laptop screen

Does the line still appear if you plug it into an external monitor? If not sounds like your laptop screen has developed a fault, unlikely to be related to what you did with your camera just coincidence. The only way around this would be to replace the laptop screen. Not an easy job but not too difficult if you can find the same screen for sale on Ebay for example. Either that or replace the laptop and sell the old one on ebay for someone else to fix. Hope that helps Chris

SOURCE: Toshiba Qosmio laptop with Phoenix securecore

You've probably got to have your computer configured to boot from a rescue CD before it can recognize and install the new harddrive. Also make sure that there is an operating system installed on the hard drive . If not it will not do anything until you install one. This will be automatic if you install a new XP or Vista DVD into the computer's DVD drive the reboot.

How do I fix a failing hard drive?

First and foremost backup your data if possible. Then if you have bad sectors on the hard drive you might try and run hdd regen. it is free and can get it from HIRAN'S BOOT CD 15.2. IT HAS SAVED MY TAIL MANY TIMES OVER.

Computer starts up to grey screen and logo then shuts down.

This is really too old to answer in March 2015

You always do a Bootable Backup using CCC to a clean external USB or FirWire Hard Drive "PRIOR" to Updating a Mac Computer. Then your Safe.
If all fails you can hold the option key down on Startup to choose the external drive to boot from.

What does it mean when it starts up in a black screen and cant start the normal windows

warning suggests that user is required to immediately backup all data and replace the failing hard drive with a new one. Hard drives may go bad due to mechanical component failure, electronic faults or firmware corruption.

Hard disk failure imm

Hello

The hard drive is a mechanical device that WILL fail - it is only a matter of time. Since you are being prompted that yours is about to fail, you need to get a backup of your data as soon as possible.

Use a USB memory stick, USB hard drive, CD or DVD disk or network drive to copy your data from the hard drive immediately. Once your data is copied to a safe location, you can run CHKDSK /r /f from the CMD line to check the hard drive and possibly fix issues.

If the hard drive has "Bad Sectors", you will need to replace the hard drive.

I have a hp pavillion ze5385us hard drive making all kinds weird sounds with stop:0x0000008E and vertical lines in center of screen besides a new hard drive can this be fixed andis this worth fixing?

You may have two problems, or just one.

The disk-drive is "failing" -- if it is "misreading" the "wallpaper" picture, then the viewed wallpaper will look to be "corrupted".

Backup all your files, to DVD-writable or USB memory-sticks,
before the disk-drive completely "dies".

Given that you have a "Athlon 64 3800+", it's worth replacing the disk-drive, reinstalling Windows, and restoring your files from your backup.
Much cheaper to replace the disk-drive than to buy a new computer.

Blue screen with rows of white lines (not BSOD) causing laptop crash

A blue screen generally indicates an operating system error or hard drive failure. Start by doing a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take, then reformat the hard drive and install a new operating system. If the hard drive won't format, or you have any issues during or after the install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced. You will need an operating system or recovery disc in order to do this. If this is a preloaded machine that didn't come with any discs, then you will need to acquire the disc.
