SOURCE: Liftmaster 3280 completely unresponsive

THEY CAN LOSE PROGRAMING IN ELECTRICAL STORMS OR POWER SURGES. UNPLUG THE UNIT TO RESET THE CIRCUIT BOARD.
REPROGRAM ALL REMOTES.
IF YOU STILL GET NO RESPONSE YOU PROBABLY HAVE A FRIED BOARD.
YOU CAN GET TROUBLESHOOTING INFO IN THE OWNERSMANUAL.
IF NOTHING ELSE WORKS CALL A LOCAL GARAGE DOOR REPAIR COMPANY. IF YOU REMOVE THE UNIT AND TAKE IT TO THEM MOST WILL DO FREE DIAGNOSTICS IN HOPE OF SELLING YOU THE REPAIR/PARTS/REPLACEMENT - BE SURE TO ASK IF THERE IS A CHARGE
HOPE THIS HELPS

Remove the cover from the motor housing and check the drive gear.

I have a Liftmaster Garage door model 3280 and I changed the belt and when I try to open the door it only open about 2 feet from the floor.

Remove the belt and then run the opener until the sprocket on top of the motor runs in the counterclockwise direction and stops. Now with the door in the open position replace the belt. Some adjustments of the up and down limits will be necessary.

Garage door does operate at all. The lights don't come on and the motor doesn't operate. The "learn" button/diagnostic LED flashes are inconsistent. The number of flashes varies and...

If these problems started immediately after a lightning storm, the printed circuit board is probably damaged. Contact a garage door service company (check the phonebook) for diagnostic support.

My liftmaster 3280 opens by itself occasionally. I have tested springs and they test fine.

Change the codes on the remote and of course the lifter itself, sounds as if some one in the neighborhood has programmed the same codes nearby.

Can't reattach the door to the trolley and grinding noise, won't move

Pull straight down on the rope and release. Then you should be able to run the opener and the two halves of the trolley will click together. Sometimes you need move the door by hand to get this done. The grinding noise is most likely the drive gear stripping. Remove the cover from the motor unit and it should be obvious.

I'm having almost the same exact problem w/ Liftmaster 3280

There is a small glass eye sensor on the garage lifter similar to your TV ( infra red) if this has become dirty with dust etc it will not always receive the signal.Check the manual to see a diagram and trouble shoot page.

My garage door opener stoped working after a storm.

TRY TO REPROGRAM THE REMOTES TO THE OPENER - THESE UNITS CAN LOSE THE MEMORY DURING STORMS.

I WOULD SUGGEST ADDING A SURGE PROTECTOR AT THE PLUG IN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR UNIT IN THE FUTURE.
