Question about Whirlpool GEW9250 Electric Dryer

Whirlpool Duet dryer will not power up

I have a Whirlpool Duet dryer and last night it dried a load of clothes, and when they came to an end, it will no longer power on. The light comes on inside the drum when I open the door. When I press the power button nothing happens. I checked the fuse box. I unplugged it for a couple of minutes. I am not sure what else to do. Can anyone give me any pointers?

I don't know if this helps but it says Duet Sport as far as the name goes.

  • ashley_round Mar 13, 2009

checked it; and it was fine. I even replaced it. I thought could have been the problem too, since it happened with my old dryer. Like I said before when I open the door the light comes on, but nothing comes on or responds on the frot panel.

model number GEW9250PLO- same exact problem, light inside the drum is on, but control button will not turn dryer on

my dryer stpped running last night ,the lights still work on the front panel but dryer will not come on.

The thermal fuse is located next to the motor.  You will see a aluminum tube come from the motor and about four or five inches out you will see two wires going into the tube.  Depending on the model it should be the thermal fuse.

  • ashley_round Mar 20, 2009

I have replaced the thermal fuse and broke down and called a repairman.  The first thing he did was check the thermal fuse as well and then another fuse and told me that it was a bad circuit board and it would be cheaper to buy a new dryer....Frustrating.

can you tell me how to locate the fuse inside the dryer and exactly how to do it, please thanks

Check your thermal fuse if no continuity through it then change it, it acts just like a car fuse. If it blows you can't see it you have to test it with a continuity tester. Go here and see what it looks like www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-gew9250-%3d%3di2986&PartID=2986

I am having the same problem. Dried towels last night. This morning, I loaded it, turned it on, it did not lock the door or start drying (spinning) but the timer started counting down. I pressed Cancel twice, unplugged it for a few minutes then tried again. Problem still exists. Any suggestions?

Just dried a load of clothes and every thing worked fine. Put in another load to dry and says it is sensing. Nothing else happens

Here's a quick thing to try. Unplug the dryer, wait a minute and plug it back in. Try drying the clothes again. If this doesn't work, you will require troubleshooting from one of the category experts for dryers. Good luck.

I ahve a duet gas dryer and it will not get hot

Now did this happen all at once or did it slowly dry clothes slower and slower and then just quit? If it happened slowlt it is because you have some sort of ventalation blockage withing the dryer itself or in the wall of your home. When this happens it will the blow the thermal cut off and this will need to be replaced. If it happened over night then it could be the heating element or the thermal cut off & thermostat. All these can be checked with a volt meter using the setting for continuity.

Check your exit vent outside of your house... what you can do is remove vent hose on back of your dryer... run dryer and feel the air coming out of the vent right behind your dryer.. now reinstall your vent line and check outside,,, see if you feel the same or about the same air flow... if your air flow is block, then your heat will not come on regularly to dry clothes... good luck
