Won't read fonts

My Opticon handheld works great with 39 regular digit font. However, a new program that I am using won't print that font. I've switched to several different barcode fonts that I can print, the the scanner does not recognize them. The scanner is 6 years old. I can print 3of9, Code 3x, 39r.ttf, & IDAutomationHC39M.ttf, but the scanner cannot recognize them. Any suggestions?

Re: Won't read fonts

Please try to reset your scanner configuration, using some utilities from it's manual book (usually available at it's case/box), restore it (usually by scanning it) to original factory configuration or scan a label that would enable all symbologies.

There are many different types of barcodes. The most famous is the Product Code or UPC Universal, in almost all items sold at retail in the United States. Try downloading a proper software demo from and make a test. If it works, means that you are either using a really bad printer or that your scanner is having problems to read that symbology

Just set up my new printer. When I try to print from Word, it prints so tiny you can hardly read it. I tried different fonts, all TT. I'm printing in 12 pt but it comes out maybe at a 4 or 6.

When you go to print the document, check that the Zoom is set to 1 page, in the box for "Pages per sheet". This may have been changed, and it prints it so that you can see multiple pages on one sheet of paper.

Scanner shows number but won't scan to computer

If you're sure that the barcode is correct then ignore the following.

Otherwise, download a free barcode font and install.

1. Open up wordpad .. and type any number say "12345", and then convert it by choosing the barcode font.
2. Print out the barcode (usually at least 26pt)
3. Leave wordpad as the active window and scan the barcode
4. "12345" should be inserted into the wordpad document.

Now you know that it works.

This should work on the default setting of most scanners.
