Question about HP Pavilion a1748 Refurbished AMD Desktop PC - AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ 2.0GHz, 1GB DDR2, 250GB SATA, D

When trying to open yahoo my computer will just sit and think.

There are some days that it will work just fine. Then it will go for days and I can't get yahoo to open at all. Some days my email will open but I can't get attachments to open. Then other times when it is working it will open my email and all attachments will open. I have contacted my internet provider and they say that they can't find a problem. I have securit as an anti virus and they have been remoted into my computer and have done virus scans and can't find anything wrong with my computer. I don't know what else to do and it is getting very frustrating one day it will work and the next day it doesn't. Help please.

I have downloaded Mozilla Firefox and it still does the same thing that internet explorer does. This may sound stupid, but how do I figure out the server I'm using. I'm not very computer literate.

I have removed the cable from the back of my tower and from the jack and pluged them back in. It still hasn't made a differance. I contacted my DSL provider and they have tested my wires and said that there is nothing wrong with the connection. I'm just at a loss on what to do.

Try using Mozilla Firefox. If still not open, it's due to your wire used. The sensitivity of the wire is important. Also check the server you are using.

Try first to change your cable wires to isolate the problem.

If that so, try to change your network card. It could be the network card or LAN card. Is it on board or PCI?

Have a Dell Dimension 4600C Desktop. It no longer recognizes the ethernet cord when it is pulled in. The cords are fine. Even tried new ones. Think that the network adapter connector on the computer is bad...

More than likely it is your ethernet card that is bad. It will be easier to buy an ethernet card and install. The procedure is not hard. You will need to open your computer and sit the card in one of the open slots toward the back of the computer.

Not able to access programs or shutoff correctly

Have you opened the computer case and cleaned out all of the dirt and lent lately? The way you discribe it happening after a period of time leads me to think the CPU is overheating .

Monitor randomly goes to sleep

Sounds like it may be a backlight issue. Try using another monitor if possible and see if the same issue occurs. If it does, then it's the backlight in the monitor. If it's not this, it could be as bibleman01 mentioned a software conflict or an issue with the graphics controller failing.

Service pack3 crashed puter - after reinstall machine thinks extra hard drive is a disk drive.

You can get to the BIOS by hitting DEL or F2 at start up.

However, that does not have anything to do with a drive letter.

Drive letter designation is set in
START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>COMPUTER MANAGEMENT>DISK MANAGEMENT.

Hope this helps.
