All my problems are with the hookup of tv and dvd/vcr combo. Just can't do it. Is there anyone I can call tv repairman? I hear the Geeks only work on computers.

Simple matter. The Yellow cable will connect from Video Out of VCR to VIDEO IN of TV. Red cable will connect from AUDIO OUR (R) of VCR to AUDIO IN (R) of TV and AUDIO OUT (L) of VCR will connect to AUDIO IN (L) of TV. Play VCR or DVD and select AV1 or AV2 of TV using TV remote control. This button may also be labelled as TV/VIDEO on your TV's Remote Control

Don't have manuel and don't know how to Set up Hitachi VCR

Such a simple job. First check if the cables are connecred properly
1. Audio OUT from VCR to AUDIO IN of TV.
2. Video OUT from VCR to VIDEO IN of TV

Then switch the TV ON. Select 'Video' on the TV/Video
selection button on the TV's remote control.
Your TV screen will show a display like 'Video' or 'AV'
Play a cassette and you should be able to see the picture...
Happy Viewing.

VCR to TV setup needed

Doreen, it is a simple job. At the back of the VCR you will find two sockets mentioned Video Out and Audio Out. Put the yellow plug in Video Out of VCR and the other end of this cable will have another yellow plug, which you put in the Video IN (PUT) of the TV. Take the White plug of the cable and put it in AUDIO OUT of the VCR and put the other end in RED AUDIO IN(PUT) of the TV, (Older VCRs like yours did not have stereo sound capability, and so there is only ONE Audio OUT from the VCR. )
Now, put a tape in the VCR and hit PLAY. Switch onthe TV and select AV1 or AV2. You should be able to get Picture and sound.

VCR shows "PLAY" on machine but doesn't show on TV

Hi,

If even the sound aside from the video is not reproduced on the TV, then your description "connect" indicates that the TV is not set to receive the audio/video signals from the VCR. Initially, pls try:
  • set the TV to Channel 3 (or 4); or
  • set the TV to A/V, Video 1 or Aux 1.
Additionally, you need to confirm how the VCR is hooked to the TV unit, bu a single coaxial cable or 3 cables with RCA connectors (yellow, red & white).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Trouble recording and playing NTSC tapes on NTSC TV!!

Sounds like the video head is dirty. Take the top cover off VCR, locate the video head, which is the rotating shiny aluminum cylindrical piece. At the lower edge of this drum are the actual heads. Use a lint free cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol or product specifically designed for such cleaning, and carefully wipe the heads and drum. Just hold cloth over a finger, and rotate the drum. Sometimes you will need to do this a couple of times.

If VCR has alot of hours or an abrasive cleaning tape has been used excessively, the head could be worn out and a candidate for the trash, unless it is a high dollar unit.

Vcr to tv connection

There are probably a couple of different ways to hook things up. One is you hook the VCR "in between" the indoor antenna & the set. Hook antenna to VCR RF/Ant In, then VCR RF/Ant out to the Antenna input on TV. Your VCR will then be able to record one channel, while you watch another on TV. To play back the VCR, or do any VCR setup, TV channel must be set to either channel 3 or 4. The other way is to use the Video & audio input/outputs on the VCR & TV. You will need the appropriate cable(s). Match the VCR video/audio outs with the set of inputs on TV. Video and audio out on the TV go back to the video/audio inputs on VCR. In order to view VCR playback, menu setup, you will need to select that input (line, aux, video 1 etc.) on the TV. This hookup probably won't allow the recording of a second channel while watching one. As regards the hft channels, I assume you live in an area where such is being broadcast. The TV can probably be put into a programming mode where it will scan for all available channels, and put them into memory, or they can be programmed manually.
