I would, if its kicking out the gfi that means the integrity of the electrical components of the pump are compromised.Either a cord leak or seal leak, buy a new one, cheaper than fixing it

I have a very old hotpoint fridg it was working fine then it started kicking out the gfi outlet can you help

The security switch is being kicked on (Gfi) because there is something wrong with the fridge. It could be the compressor, it could be the overall electrics...etc.

What type of sound are you hearing? Smell anything? Does it happen at night or during the day, all the time?

Is there anything else big in the area that is a new item that may be drawing more electricity than the circuits in that area can handle? Example would be Toaster, Coffee pot, Oven and Fridge sharing the same electric source, not the same plug - same wires.

Do you live in a newer home or an older home?

GFI outlet is tripping because of refrigerator in the garage.

Hi: Yes, replace the GFI outlet. A refrigerator should not be plugged into one for what you are experiencing and food loss. This was an easy answer for me, but unfortunately not for you The owners manual covers this, but us men don't read them (Well I had to as I worked with them for 30 years). Good luck, Jeff

Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator keeps tripping GFI outlet.

We had same problem with different fridge. Is the fridge cooling things? When ours did that we needed to replace the relay overload start capacitor it's called a three in one. It acts like a giant battery to give your compressor a n extra boost to get started runs about 25 bucks relatively easy fix only has three wires to connect

Fridge keeps tripping electricity

I assume by "earth leakage" you mean it is on a GFI circuit? Some older GFI outlets are sensitive to and do not work well with motors or other inductive loads like your refridgerator compressor. As for the compressor feeling hot, this is usually normal.

If this is a GFI outlet, try replacing it with new unit. If it is a GFI breaker, try replacing that.

Whirlpoor Refridgerator 10-12 yrs old

I had a whirlpool fridge that did the exact same thing. Sometimes it was loud enough to wake me up at night! It is the compressor shutting down. I had it for several years untill I purchased a larger one, and then gave it to a girlfriend at least a year ago. Its still working good today. So if you can tollerate it, just live with it. Otherwise change the compressor.
