Question about Kenmore Dryers

Open Question

My dryer mod. 417 98042701 won't heat. this started with the lights flashing on the front of the dryer

The lights on the front controls have been flashing for a couple of weeks. It would shut off too soon, but it would heat back up when you turned it back on. Now it will run but it won't heat up. You can't hear the gas kick in. The lights are still flashing. Tried unplugging and plugging back in. That didn't work.

Fixed myself after talk with parts counter guy. One of the gas valve coils fails when they warm up. Repair kit comes with both.
1.) Unplug dryer. 2.) Remove dryer front panel. 3.) Remove the two screws on the coil hold down bracket. 4.) Slide one up and off. Then the other. Don't mix them up, one has two wires in slide connector, the other has three. 5.) Reinstall coil hold down bracket and front panel.
Fixed my problem. My cost was $17.00+tax. My part #279834.

is the other lights DIM(partially lit)?
If so it could be one of the following.
1.) Intermittent ribbon cables between the control board and the Interface board (one with the buttons) Reseat all four cables.
2.) faulty control board.
3.) faulty Input board.

Hello John Sterns - First, try resetting the unit dryer by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes. Restart unit and if it proves to be ineffective then typically this is something that a professional would need to diagnose. Since it is such a complex unit, there are multiple possible causes; faulty power cord, house wiring, defective control board, thermal limiter or door switch.

If the washer won't start, check to be sure there is power to the electrical outlet for the home. If that is OK, the power cord itself might be defective. This is rare. You can check the power cord with an Ohm meter for continuity.
If the washer won't start check to see if there is power at the electrical outlet which the washer is plugged into. Plug a lamp or radio into the outlet to check it. If the outlet is dead, check the circuit breakers or fuses for the home.
If the washer won't start the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.
If the washer won't start the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.
If the washer won't start the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check other parts and causes first.
If the washer won't start the line fuse might have blown, or the line fuse holder might be damaged and need to be replaced.
If the washer won't start the thermal fuse may have blown. It can be tested for continuity. Watch our fuse testing video for more information.

Not sure, but I've heard a bad hazard switch can cause strange problems.
Also, if your truck has a body control module that controls interior and lights, that may be your problem, too. Good luck.

II might need the actual model number. However, you can go to page 9 on this manual and check if the flashing options can fix the problem. I am assuming you have already tried to turn the power off and back on.

The ohter thing to try is the reset sequence. Within 6-7 secs press High Temp/ Heat Dry/ High Temp/ Heat Dry/ High Temp/ Heat Dry. All lights should light up, press Start button to exit.
