SOURCE: mower starts but boggs down and then dies

Sounds like the air filter media is full of muck.

You need to clean it.

Everything should then be fine....

SOURCE: Where is the egine model number located on a Lawn

Go to www.lawnboy.com and input the model number of the MOWER and probably any of the serial #'s if you don't have yours. More options and info will pop up and you may get your engine model info from there. I hear that the Duraforce engines are all the same model?

SOURCE: Need to replace starter cord on Tecumseh LV195EA

This is an easy one. You need a #2 phillips screwdriver, a 1/4" nutdriver or socket, a 5/16" nutdriver or socket, 84" of #4.5 braided nylon rope, scissors and a lighter or flame of some kind.

1. With the #2 phillips screwdriver, remove the 2 screws that hold the green plastic cover to the top of the engine. This is just a decorative cover.
2. With the 5/16 nutdriver, remove the 3 screws in the top of the fuel tank. Lift the tank straight up about 3/4" and then just lay it back on the rear of the mower deck.
3. The round black object on top of the motor is the starter houseing. You will find it being held on with 2 screws from the side. The 1/4 nutdriver should fit these. Remove them, and note the position of each screw and the position of the starter top. It might help to put some colored tape on the starter top and on the upper engine shroud to make sure you put it back in the same position. The starter top will come off by lifting it straight up.
4. Remove what is left of the old rope.
5. carefully wind the inner pulley (the same direction the rope will pull it) until it is tight. Then let it rotate back a little until the rope hole in the pulley lines up with the rope hole in the starter top. Use your screwdriver to hold these in place by putting it through the pulley and starter top vent holes.
6. Measure your rope out to 84inches and then cut it. Take the lighter and melt the ends of the rope to keep them from ravelling. When you melt the ends, take a paper towel or a rag and wipe the ends to form a point. This will make reinstall easier.
7. Push the rope throught the eyelet of the starter top and through the hole in the pulley and tie a figure 8 knot on the inside of the pulley. Tie the starter handle on the other end. but do not tighten this knot, you may have to untie it to lace it back through to where it goes.
8.. Hold tension on the rope and remove the screwdriver. The rope should retract into the starter top.
9.Reinstall everything in reverse order.

Good luck!

SOURCE: how do i replace the starter cord on a victa

Remove the recoil assembly from the mower, there are 3 machine screws.
Remove the old rope and get matching cord, make sure you get the correct diameter, usually 3/16 or 1/4 inch, and type, I believe it should be nylon braided. Do not cut the new cord.
Use a match to light the end of the cord and once it ignites, use an old rag to pull and form the end into a point.
Notice which way the pulley in the starter assembly rotates and hand spin it in that direction until it is fairly tight. Once it is tight, rotate it into a position such that you can push the pointed end of the cord from the outside into the hole in the housing of the starter and directly into the hole on the inner pulley. Tie a tight knot in the end of the rope inside the pulley.
Remove the clamp and let the rope get rewound on the pulley. Cut the cord, point this end and run it into the handle and knot it.

It may not be the same on your machine, but most are like this.

Pull cord gets stuck

I recently had a similar problem with an old briggs 3hp engine. In my case the starter clutch was not engaging properly. I then removed the starter rope/clutch mechanism, cleaned it, and rewound the spring. This job is not too difficult but requires a little research if you haven't done it before. It was my first time so I watched several youtube videos (separate videos for the clutch and the starter rope). A few important details on winding the spring were described in the user manual for the Briggs starter rope replacement kit (about $10, including the winding tool). Good luck!

I have a Lawn Boy mower, model 0642, and the cord will not recoil. (There is a small metal clamp on the cord at the base). I was told to take it off the mower to get a replacement but after removing the...

Don't remove the rivets! The whole top of the mower comes off by removing the bolts in front and back (I'm assuming it's a Briggs). Should be two up front and two in back. Pull the whole top off the blower assembly then you can replace the rope yourself. You sound pretty savvy so I'm gonna send you two video links that I love for doing this. After watching both, you should get the idea of how it's done. Best of luck to you and Happy Mowing. James

I pulled out the pug to recharge the starter for key start, and lost the outer plastic casing to plug it back in. Can I order the casing for the exposed prongs

The 10640 model does not have an electric start that I can see. Are you sure you have to model number correct? The 10642 and 10642C models are electric start. I will use the 10642 as a parts reference.

The electrical assembly is here:
http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=lawn_boy&mn=10642%2C+20in+Mulching%2FRear+Bagging+Lawn+Mower%2C+2009+%28SN+290000001-290999999%29&dn=3361337A-392215-0007

Where did you pull the wires out from? The battery box? The mower harness? The switch?
From looking at the parts available you should be able to figure out which part you need to replace.

My B&G Lawnmower Model#10642 is spitting out and leaking oil. What could the problem be?

sounds like you might have too much oil in the sump or a wet sumped ( had a engine flooding )
does the oil in sump smell like petrol and runs like water if you tip some out ? if carb is not shutting of fuel flow
if so drain and refill to correct level andgive tank and carb a thourgh clean out and check / replace needle and seat in carb, check float for fuel inside float ?

then check that breather is not stuck closed and is allowing pressure build up in crankcase and forcing oil past rings into the combustion chamber

is the oil comming out of muffler ?or from somewhere else ?

check for a tight inlet or exhaust valve

have look and let me know what you find

Lawn boy 2 cycle mower won't start

Replace the spark plug and retry.
If a new plug does not work push the spring button on the bottom of the carburetor to make sure fresh fuel is in the fuel bowl.
if this does not work remove the spark plug and squirt some light oil (like wd 40) right into the spark plug hole; roll the engine over slowly a couple times using the starter rope. put the plug back in and snap the plug wire in place. If the mower now starts after a couple pulls it means the rings are worn, replace the rings.
