Question about Dehumidifiers
The fan runs and I hear a click like a relay sound then off fan still running and the click again, this cycle continues. but the compressor never comes on. Could it be the compassador (sp.) ??
Of course it never collects water, this unit has worked a lot in a damp basement for the past 2-3 years. Its has been cleaned .
Thank you for any suggestions..

this unit is very simular to an air conditioner except it has a humidistat instead of a thermistat.. if your handy with a continuity tester unplug the unit find the humidistat and check to see if its open or if its good then call the company at 1 800 322 3848 or contact the web site at firstname.lastname@example.org Good Luck

if the fins feel cold then you should be collecting condensate. so try this: remove the outer shell to access the fins. with a garden hose, spray the fins off thoroughly. you may see a lot of dust and line that was clogging the air flow.

ALL DEHUMIDIFIERS REQUIRE ROOM TEMPS TO BE AT LEAST 65 DEGREES AND A HUMIDITY OF AT LEAST 50 % TO OPERATE PROPERLY. ANYTHING LESS AND IT MAY FREEZE THE EVAPORATOR COILS. EVAPORATOR COILS WILL ALSO FREEZE IF THE COILS ARE DIRTY AND HAVE RESTRICTED AIR FLOW.TRY TAKING THE COVER OFF OF THE UNIT AND CLEANING BOTH SETS OF COILS INSIDE. THEY ARE COPPER OR ALUMINUM WITH FINS ON THEM.
ALSO CHECK THE FAN TO BE SURE IT IS RUNNING.
THAT WILL CAUSE AN OVERHEATING CONDITION AND WILL SHUT DOWN THE COMPRESSOR ALSO.

the compressor runs in oil. suspect you have a quite bad leak and loss all the gas - hence no water collection and the compressor oil is being pumped out thro the leak

It sounds like an issue with the control bord. This dehumidifier should have a 5 year warranty through LG. You will need to have this serviced. If it is under warranty by LG they will either refer you to a local repair shop and they will pay for the repair or they will replace it if you do not have a repair shop in your area. Call them and explain the problem to them. Make sure that you have your reciept. Here is the contact information for LG:
