SOURCE: Shutdown protection? HELP please

All of the Denon recievers I have repaired (over 100) that shut down after a very short time are going into protect mode. The display lights up and after about 10 seconds the display goes out and the standby led blinks red.
I have found that they have one of 3 possible problems and they all require that the reciever be taken apart and fixed at component level. No way to tell what your problem is until it gets put on a bench and troubleshot.

Problem 1. This is the most common problem. One of the front channels shorts out. On the big heat sink the front channels are at each end. It is the front left channel (close to the display) This requires that the output transistors be replaced as well as some driver transistors and some resistors and a capacitor. Lots of work for a blown channel. Denon has put out a bullitin to upgrade the bias transistor and change a couple of resistors to help compensate for this failure. That channel overheats more than any other channel.

Problem 2. There is a resistor that is right next to the preamp board that opens up. It is a 10 ohm 1 watt resistor and when it opens, it causes the unit to go into protect.

Problem 3. The +12 volt regulator fails. It is in the power supply area on a smal heat sink right next to the -12 volt regulator. Generic part number is KIA7812 It also causes the unit to go into protect.

Most decent repair shops can fix these from about $120 up to about $200. Depending on which problem it is and how fast they are at finding the problem. Most charge labor by the hour.

SOURCE: tv immediately turns off

Four flashes indicates a problem with the backlight on the TV. It can be caused by the backlight inverter board (the power supply for the backlight) or by defective backlights in the panel It is USUALLY the backlight inverter board that is bad, but I have seen both components fail at various times. This set is fairly new and should still be withing the one year warranty, so you should contact Sony at 800-222-SONY to get it repaired. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

I have a Hisense led tv model F39V77C.

Yeah, replace the set since it appears to be trashed. But if you have a few bucks lying around you might want to try replacing the unit's power supply to see if that resolves the many issues you have.

Hello, i have a sanyo dp 19648 that was working perfectly when last used, i have been away on a trip & turned all electric power right off from the mains & when i got back, the tv will not come on...

Power supply in set has a standby the runs 7/24 (all sets do and computers also) and the loss of power when restored may have damaged something there---a fuse is possible and should be looked at first---the Standby provides voltage for the remote to turn main supply and the set on.

Watching tv/w a dvd/vhs player(a seperate machine)the power goes out on the screen.went out with a white flash like usually when i turn it on the bottom where the control buttons are,a red light...

It seems that your unit has some sort of PSU fault, or a problem that is shutting down the Power Supply Unit, PSU. This happens so that no further damage, and possible fire will occur.
You need to take the unit to a reputable service centre/man and ask for a firm "Quote" for the work to be done. It is that sound that gives it away, this is a typical switchmode Power Supply problem.

Doesn't turn on,when i plug it ,only the stand by light turns on,and after i press it it goes away and keeps off

OK here is the problem when the unit won’t power up but the standby light goes off: The power supply board has failed. The good news is that it's not difficult to repair, however, the problems were a bit difficult to locate without a schematic. I was not able to find a schematic anywhere, but I design power supplies for a living, so I was able to work through it.
One note of caution. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE POWER SUPPLY UNLESS YOU ARE QUALIFIED. When the power cord is plugged in, lethal voltages are present, even when the unit is turned off. ALWAYS UNPLUG THE UNIT BEFRE ATTEMPTING ANY KIND OF SERVICE.
Now, on to the problems and solutions.
PROBLEM #1. Remove the power supply board from the unit by the 6 mounting screws. Flip the board over and in the back towards where the connectors are mounted, you will see 3 SMT transistors in SOT-23 packages. Q1, Q2 and Q3. Q3 is blown and must be replaced. The original part # used is unknown, however, I was able to figure out by the surrounding circuitry that it is a P Channel MOSFET. I replaced it with a Si2301CDS ( because I had quite a few and the specifications are adequate. You can get these from Digikey for about 50 cents.
PROBLEM #2. There are 3 electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board that need to be replaced. SC13, SC15 and SC18. SC13 and SC15 are the same (1000uF @16VDC) and SC18 is 1uf @ 50VDC. Note: USE HIGH QUALITY aluminum electrolytic specifically designed for high temperature and high ripple in switching power supplies. Using poor quality capacitors will cause the unit to fail again. Here is what I recommend and they are inexpensive from Digikey. For SC 13 and SC 15 use Panasonic EEU-FC1C102S ($1.03) and for SC18 use Panasonic EEU-FC1H1R0 (27 cents).
This should bring the unit back to life. Remember to install the new capacitors with the polarity marking(s) in the correct position on the board, otherwise they will explode and you are back to square one. And most importantly, be careful when working around high voltage. If in doubt, allow a qualified person to make the repairs. It's not worth the risk of getting hurt or killed.
Good luck and take care.

I have this very same machine and found out that when you power on the unit the red light goes out. So its the opposite, when its on, the light goes out, when its off, the light is on. Well it is made in china! Mine was a POS. the words didn't display on the screen fast enought, and the colors were way off, plus it wasnt in-sync with the music. I wasnt too happy with this unit. good thing it was a christmas present. Walmart here I come!

The unit will only turn on foe a few sec, due the standby light

Just inside the unit your power cord goes into a blackbox (like a coil of wire) that regulates the actual power the unit recieves, this maybe faulty and needs to be replaced but if this unit is out of warranty this maybe more expencive than a new one, the unit will still stay in standby but when you try to turn it on it draws more power and the supply control won't let it. I have had one of these units that has had the same problem in my work and it proved to dear to repair. Sorry hope this helped. You could try bypassing it but you would probably blow the unit up.
