It depends on which operating system you are using. Here are instructions for Windows 7:
Click on Start -> All Programs -> Maintenance.
Tip: An alternative is to execute from the Run box or a Command Prompt window. If you do that, you can skip to Step 3 below.
Click on the Create a System Repair Disk shortcut.
Choose your optical disk drive from the Drive: drop-down box.
Insert a blank disk in your optical drive.
Note: An empty CD should be large enough for a System Repair Disk. I created a Windows 7 System Repair Disk on a new Windows 7 32-bit installation and it was only 145MB. If you only have a blank DVD or BD available, that's okay too of course.
Click the Create disk button.
Windows 7 will now create the System Repair Disk on the blank disk you inserted in the previous step. No special disk burning software is required.
After the System Repair Disk creation is complete, Windows 7 displays a dialog box that you can close by clicking the Close button.
Click the OK button back on the original Create a system repair disk window that's now showing up on your screen.
Label the disk as "Windows 7 System Repair Disk" and keep it someplace safe.
You can now from this disk to access System Recovery Options, the set of system recovery tools available for the Windows 7.
Tip: As with a Windows 7 installation disk, you'll need to watch for a for a Press any key to boot from CD or DVD... message on screen, right after your computer turns on or restarts with the System Repair Disk inserted.
Here are the steps on how to install operating system using the recovery disc - power on the computer and insert the disc - once the disc is inserted, turn off the computer - press the power button then after 2 seconds tap F12 repeatedly - select the cd/dvd option or ODD (optical disc drive) use the up and down arrow keys - press enter - once you see "press any key to boot from CD" press enter right away it will show " Loading Windows" - then after the next phase will be set of on screen instructions, you just have to select the right option.
Try inserting a small pin through the hole beneath the insertion cabin, after pressing the eject button. If you don't have such a hole, Push the eject button and tap hardly on the top of the player. The drive will come out in two or three attempts.
If the CD or DVD disks you inserted work in some other reader, then your reader is the problem -- even though it is properly connected to your computer, and Windows has the correct device-drivers, it is the "hardware" that is the problem.
When you insert a disk, rotate it to some position, i.e., top-lettering goes in first, and close the drawer. Do you hear the drive start to spin the disk? Open the drawer. Is the disk in the same (non-rotated) position? If so, then the motor that spins the disk is the problem. If the disk does spin, but nothing happens, then it is the "laser" part of the mechanics that is not working.
Is there not a drawer open/close button?
Please wait usually indicated wrong type of disk and it is not being read or faulty laser.
Switch it off and switch on then press the drawer release before it starts trying to read.
