Click Start->Control Panel->System (Device Manager if Vista)->Hardware->Device Manager and look from explanation marks, if you have it, then go to HP support site and download (install) driver for wireless card.

Or you can open small "doors" from bottom of the laptop and reseat wireless card or replace it (if its not HP genuine fault then its a card).

This is a common problem on hp laptops in the 2000 and 6000 series. It is caused by a manufacturing defect on the mainboard. You may try and update your BIOS and see if it fixs it.. If it doesnt you will have to contact HP and they will give you a free repair if you still are under warranty (the warranty is 2 years here in Denmark)

BIOS update:

I can not get internet and i can not find the wifi icon. it is not where it is suppose to be

Reset the machine by flipping it over on it's back and find a small hole 1in diagonaly from the lower right corner of the data plate. put theend of a tooth pick in that hole and depress for about 10 seconds and you will reload a new copy of the software. look closely at the bottom right corner of the tool bar and see if you spot a small computer with 2 side radiating arcs. The newer version of the software automatically turns on the wIfI, but you should see the blue WiFi logo icon.

It is looking for a password (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computer icon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOT connected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up, then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name of your WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. Then another window opens up called Network Properties. Uncheck "The key is provided automatically" box. This will allow you to type in your "Network Key", the password that protects your network from outsiders. This "KEY" was set up when you installed the router on your server computer. If this does not work at first, turn the machine over on it's back and using a toothpick, insert it into the little hole about an inch diagonally from the right corner of the data plate, this will re-load a new copy of everything including the WiFi RT28701 driver.

sometimes this driver gets confused. See my TIP at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing

Additional Information

When I try to sign on with the red X showing, I get "The page cannot be displayed If I then double click on the icon down in the right corner I elucidated above, RT28701 opens up to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) with all zeros in the IP address field, and Subnet Mask, with no entries in the default gateway. That is a clue to me that the auto sign on has not found a viable network or needs something else. If I then click on Wireless Information tab, The list of available networks appear in the box. The machine keeps trying to associate my previous entered name site with my prefered site and tells me the signal is good, but it cannot link up. This is a signal to me that it has lost my Network Key or that the software has failed or both. I then click on advance and delete my prefered network and hit OK, this will force the software to ask me for my network again, and notice that the prefered is missing. I click on the name of my network again and then hit connect., then the Wireless Network properties window opens up and I can insert my Network Key again after I uncheck the "The key is provided automatically" box. I enter the key and hit the OK button. I still do not get a connection, so I reboot the machine, and wait for about 30 seconds and the machine synchs up because the little RED X under the icon has disappeared. Now the machine will hook to the internet as long as I want to, but sometimes when I turn the machine on it will not synch, so I go through the above sequence again. The secret is once you have entered your key and ask for the machine to synch up you have to reboot. Why? I do not exactly know, but I suspect that the WiFi driver looses it

I recently bought a Sylvania 7 inch netbook sold at CVS.\r\nIt states to activate WI Fi to click on wifi icon on bottom right of screen. If icon is not available to press FN + F9 When I press FN+F9...

Your OS should have an icon on the desk top that says WIFI Power, it is blue in color and this icon turns the WIFI on and off. When the button says off, the WiFi is on, the idea is that it is waiting for you to turn it off. If that is not on your desk top, turn the machine over and look for a small hole 1in diagonally right of the data plate. insert a tooth pick in that hole a depress gently to reset your machine.

Can't get on wifi sylvania 7 inch note book

You have to enable the WIFI button on the desk top, when you click on it it will show a power on button. when you click on that button it will turn to off, ready to turn off when you click it.

The machine will then hunt for a network within range and connect. Look for a small icon down in the right corner of the tray and see if you see a small computer screen with two radiating waves. this means that the machine has found a network and is connected. If you see a red X beside that icon instead of the radiating waves, it means you do not have a connection, If you have a connection then you can use the Internet explorer to go to a place on the internet.

The WiFi software that is embedded into the OS does not work very well. Fortunately digitalgadget.com has a download that somewhat fixes this problem fairly well. The new download is not totally goof proof, but you can work with it.

Go to: http://www.digitalgadgets.com/netbooks/update.html and download the indicated update. You can copy it to a thumb drive and connect the thumb drive to your Sylvania , find it under My Computer and then copy it to your
desktop and run it from there.

How do I turn the radio on the wireless card

When your computer is switched on, the WiFi radio is almost always transmitting or receiving signals. In certain situations, as in an airplane, signals from the radio may cause interference. Use the following methods if you need to disable the radio and use your notebook without emitting radio signals.
Use the Optional Computer Radio On or Off Switch

If your computer has an external switch installed, use it to switch the WiFi radio on or off. See the computer manufacturer for more information about this switch. If you have Intel® PROSet/Wireless installed, the current state of the radio displays in the Intel PROSet/Wireless main window and on the Taskbar.

Use Intel PROSet/Wireless to Switch the WiFi Radio On or Off

From Intel PROSet/Wireless, the WiFi radio can be switched on or off. The status icon on Intel PROSet/Wireless displays the current state of the radio.

To start Intel® PROSet/Wireless, use one of the following methods:
  • Click Start > Programs > Intel PROSet Wireless > WiFi Connection Utility.
  • Right-click the Taskbar icon prosettaskbaricon1.jpg located in the lower right corner of your Windows* Desktop to open the Taskbar menu. Click Configure WiFi.
