Did you try draining the excess water from the tank? Mine does this if there's water in the tank. You'll find a 'petcock' valve at the bottom of the tank. With partial pressure in tank, on screw the vavle slowly until it starts to drain. Let it drain all the water out then reclose the valve and try again.

I have a Husky HU40500 5000 watt portable generator ( Subaru engine ) that has a 6 gallon tank- about how long will it run ?

This is an approximation but it should be pretty close. At 1/2 load you should run about thirteen hours on a tank full. Thank you

Need new gas tank

A couple things you can do here...

1) Drain the tank, blow it dry using compressed air, and get all the rust out that you can. Use an acid wash / rinse to help remove the rest of the rust. Coat the tank inside with a tank sealer like that from kbs-coatings or caswell.

2) Have a metal shop make you a new tank that will approximate the old one.

3) Install a fuel filter that will catch the rust particles (left over after blowing it out) and be done with it

4) Use an external fuel tank (marine comes to mind) instead of onboard fuel tank.

Makita G11oo portable generator. starts on choke. cuts off run

Just noticed your question... If you still need a little help:
1. If the gas is from last year, drain the tank and the carb bowl and replace gas with new. Visually inspect the inside of the tank ..be sure there's no sediment that needs to be cleaned out.
2. remove air cleaner and make sure it's not plugged or dirty
3. plug the spark plug and clean with spray carb cleaner.
4. At end of season, mix some gas stablizer in with the fuel to keep it from going bad while in storage.

Let me know how it goes..
