Thank you for helping. Sorry I was vague in my explanation, I have a digital box that is currently hooked up and working. Will my TV work without the box? How would I do this?

  • jl rad Apr 22, 2013

I looked online, and see for sure you have a digital tuner in that tv, no outboard box is needed to convert over the air digital tv channels for your unit. there are two coax 'cable type' connections on the back of your unit, one is marked 'uhf/vhf' that is the one you use, and you will need to go to the set-up menu of your tv, and scan for digital channels

Thanks for the help! I eventually figured it out, I ended up disconnecting & reconnecting the antenna cable to each connection 3 to 4 times, trying UHF, then scan, back to cable connection then scan, back to UHF then scan again. It was a pain but I finally got it to work! Thank you for the help!!!

Look for a coax cable connection on the back of your tv, connect antenna to booster, booster to tv, then in the set-up menu of tv, go to channel set-up, scan for channels

There is a Thermal fuse under the lamp housing that opens up and Sony has a New style fuse to replace it with, it opens up one of the p/s lines to set code 6, replace with new thermal fuse and test. You will want a Skilled Professional to replace this fuse as it does require some dissassembly and removal of light engine to remove fuse from under lamp housing to put new one on side of lamp housing.

SOURCE: please help-question about sony optical blocks

Talk to Sony about the blue blob issue, they may still replace the optical block for free.

If not, fix the blinking light TV.

Blink Codes
3X - Lamp cover not installed correctly, usually after lamp change, or cover detect switch is bad.
4X - Check fans (one or more failed to pass RPM test during power on diagnostics)
5X - Lamp ballast (power supply)
6X - Usually the thermal fuse - usually from inadequate air flow (fans dusty)

All other codes usually require a trained technician to diagnose and repair.

SOURCE: I have a Sony KDF-60XS955 tv. It won't power on,

I have that manual. There are three lights to the left of the power button. One is labled LAMP. The manual states "The projection lamp, which illuminates the picture, has a limited life. If the screen becomes dark, the color looks unusual, or the LAMP indicator on the front of the LCD projector TV flashes, it is time to replace the lamp with a new one (not supplied). Use a Sony XL-2200 replacement lamp (not supplied) for replacement. Use of any other lamp may damage the LCD projection TV." I also found in a different page " LAMP LED lights up in red when the lamp for the light source has burnt out." I guess burnt out would be extream. I found one other if you had opened the light bulb cover and didn't close it properly. " If the lamp cover is not reattached securely, the self-diagnostic function may be triggered and the POWER/STANDBY indicator flashes three times." You can down the sony manual at

I hooked up my new Proscan TV to the antenna but it can't find any channels

You need to check the connection is tight from the antenna and also on the back of the tv. You may need to try another coaxial cable. Is your antenna powered, meaning does it have a power plug that needs to be plugged in? Is your tv an old crt television? You may need a converter box to be able to view digital channels. A signal booster may help you get more channels.

Your tv or antenna may be defective. You could try your antenna on another tv. If your other tv gets a signal, your tv's tuner could be bad. If the other tv goes not get a signal either your antenna could be bad. I hope this helps narrow down your problem.

How to resolve TV tuning issues?

Check the orientation of the antenna. Try to rotate it, and see whether the signal strength varies. If the signal strength is too weak, digital channels will show many problems. Try a signal booster. Contact any service technician.

My tv says digital channel strength is low

If you are using this TV with Cable connection, the strength of cable signal is low. Contact the cable operator and ask him to put a signal booster at your premises. If you are using it with On Air transmissions receiving, include an antenna signal booster at the mast of your yagi antenna on roof. OK

I guess it depends on where you put the antenna for the old tv and the new. If the antenna is in the same place then it follows the rule that not every tv set receives and displays the same. This being said means that your going to have to change direction of antenna to compensate for for the lack of reception on new set. Rember the new digital is line of sight transmission. Not all the towers are in the same place. Try adjusting antenna or get antenna booster.

signal booster, different tuners require different signal powers, by splitting the feed you've effectively halved the signal strength, a booster should bring it back,

Because you are receiving digital transmissions, if the signal is too weak your picture will break up and pixilate. In the days of analougue you would just get a snowy picture. If you are getting the channels, you might want to consider investing in a booster and a digital antenna. Install the booster as near to the antenna as possible to get the best out of it.

I'm trying to set the digital channels on my durabrand tv and i get the message that digital channel signal strength is low. what do i need to do?

If you are using a regular antenna to receive the signal, then you would need to either find a signal booster of some sort, or improve the antenna. There are many antennas out there for the digital era, most of them are set-top multi-/omni-directional ones, but they have their limitations. Unfortunately to get a better signal, typically an outdoor antenna is needed, or a large expansive one in the attic.

Is a booster needed for the tb100mw9 dtv converter box?

Best solution would be to use an outdoor antenna with an amplifier(booster)--but in some areas you may get by with an amplified set top antenna. Just all depends on your location..

In perspective, I have an outdoor UHF dish and 10 foot VHF antennas with an amplifier and still i get only fair reception on outlying digital stations that normally come in clear on analog.

Also--this converter box must complete the autoscan with an antenna attached, or else you'll receive NOTHING; not even by manually selecting a known digital channel.

This #@!! box automatically locks out what it considers to be unused or weak channels. It makes the decisions and you're left with 'no signal' messages and nothing to do but try a rescan.....and you cannot add channels to any it has already found.
