Question about Panasonic Vintage Technics Sa-200 Stereo Receiver Mint Cosmetic Condition But Needsrepair

Open Question

Technics sA 200

I have a Technics SA 200 receiver which has served me faithfully for 33 years. But alas: yesterday there was only comming a monotone sound out of my speakers. Stronger from the left channel; weaker from the right channel. Sounds as soon as I turn on power and is not affected by any of the switches/knob settings. Any ideas about what this might be and how to fix it?

SOURCE: My Technics stereo system ...the display screen shows nothing

The question is, do you hear any sound? Is just the display off or is the entire unit shutdown? Can you tell?

These displays are known to develope poor solder connections at the power input and ground pins. If you can solder, open up the unit (unplugged of course) and examine the pins for the display. This will be on the PC board attached to the front panel. The pins at either end of a long line of pins will be the power and ground pins. Reasolder those pins, taking care not to short the pins together and try the unit once done. If that does not resolve the problem (assuming it is just a display problem), update this with as many details as you can about the behavior of the unit and we'll look further.

Can I use any cable to connect the subwoofer, for a Technics sa-ax530 receiver

That would depend entirely on your unidentified subwoofer and what IT needs. The Receiver puts out a usable Subwoofer feed on an RCA jack. That would suggest an RCA Cable, huh?

Max. wattage for speakers w/ Technics Receiver SA-GX100?

I too have a Technics SA-GX100 and it's rated at 2 x 40W @ 8 Ohms. I have the Technics SB-2840 floor model speakers hooked to it, which are rated at 200W Music Input - 8 ohms. It sounds very nice just to be a 40W receiver.

Which port do I plug in MP3? aux or phono. This is a Technics Sa 200

You'll want to use the AUX, because it, for sure, does not have any RIAA equalization, which the phono input may or may not have.

Short answer: Plug the mp3 player into the AUX inputs.

Distortion on analog input of Technics SA-DA10.

Solved it... Turns out it was the connection between my "Tape Out" on my DA10, and "In" on my (Philips) DCC deck that caused some sort of (ground?)loop. Removing this connection solved my problem. Can't believe it took me so long to figure this out! Anyway, i'm very happy with this, since i really love this amp, and i felt really bad about this sudden weird distortion thing. My faith in the Technics brand has been restored, as has my appreciation for this lovely piece of gear :)

I had the exact same thing with my Technics SU-A808 stereo amp, btw.
