What is the format on the DVD? Do you have the latest version of VLC, choose 32 or 64bit: http://www.filehippo.com/download_vlc_32/ Have you tried other Media Players? You can find many freeware Media Players at FILEHIPPO: http://www.filehippo.com/ Look under the heading Audio and Video.

See? 4 days, and no response from any solution....New site change is always a 'lovely' thing.......until the bugs are worked out......

You think you got probs, the Spell Checker doesn't work. I'm doomed to cryptic words and the users ability to decipher hieroglyphics.

Spell check works fer me, bahahahaha! (Except in this Comment section, of course.......Yes, I misspelled on purpose) Users ability to decipher hieroglyphics.......and what have WE been doing?.......I realize everyone's native language isn't English,....but c'mon!..........People from US are speaking Martianese, lol!.........Yep, haven't heard back from anyone on here, except of course you.......Support? Yeah, right.........Put the LOUNGE back in FixYa Support!!....THAT, is how you deliver a 'blanket' message easily......Apparently a blanket email is too technical........."Hi, we just wanted to let you know, that we are about to implement website design changes........Mary picked out the 'paint', and Cory the carpet........Come in, and have some Koolaid.......[OH, by the way..........there may be a period where you NEVER hear back from the problem askers, as they won't be able to Comment........Happens EVERY TIME they impose a site change........Yeah, finally figured out the direct link thing........Just DON'T USE the Insert Link option......It's set up like Yahoo Answers.......Don't need to copy/paste/paste, and use Insert Link......Paste the URL, move down a couple of lines, and it's a direct link......Want to make paragraphs? Double space......When you finish a sentence, and are ready to start a new one, your cursor jumps down a double space. Now space again, and start the sentence. You will now be at a new paragraph........(For those of us that write, 'paragraphs', lol!).......I'll bet problem askers ARE responding, we are just not getting it/them.......Either that or the Comment 'button' doesn't work, or they can't find it now........Sheesh...........Is the Marketplace still going? Another 'wonderful idea', from the makers of Howdy Dowdy........."Hi, I'm an S'purt......I gave 5 solutions now, and this turned me into a therotical astrophysicist........I don't know how to spell though.........crayons keep breaking.........I can't find my rug for naptime........(Koolaid doesn't have enough sugar in it, either; and cookies are........like.....OLD!) .........Just another day in paradise........"What's that Bob? S'purts are complainin' the site isn't working? Give them CAKE!......Just because if they all left Fixya would crumble to it's knees,.......means nothing.........They think they have enough solutions to keep their advertising going,.....EVEN if another problem is never answered again........Really?.......Watch places like Alexa......http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/fixya.com

I'm working on this badly abused Sony Vaio PCG252L , Graphics is going in and out. Disassembled, replaced Thermal Paste, cooked the chip, Nvidia Geforce Go 7400, BSOD and the USB keyboard won't respond!

  • joecoolvette
    joecoolvette Apr 25, 2013

'Cooked the chip'..........If you used a propane torch, you may have decent luck.........But the only TRUE, lasting method, is to have an SMD/BGA Rework Station, used.......Oven method?........Really?.........Think about that for a second.....ALL the Solder Balls, for ALL of the chipsets, are heated.......This = NO........Good way to ruin a motherboard........Hot Air Gun.........Yeah right, lol!.............Propane torch...........Bordering on lunacy....HOWEVER,...the closest I have seen yet to a real fix........Why? It's a BGA surface mount....Ball Grid Array......Chipset has very small, SHORT 'pegs', made of Copper......These are Copper Pads...They are coated with gold plating.....Then a Solder Ball is attached.......(Yeah, I know....allow me to continue)........The motherboard also has matching Copper Pads. They are also gold plated........The graphics chipset is set on the motherboard, with it's Solder Balls lining up, on the motherboard's matching Copper Pads.......Heat is then applied at a SPECIFIC temperature, and LENGTH of time.....This action solders the graphics chipset TO the Copper Pads...Which in turn of course solders the graphics chipset, TO the motherboard........-> IF Take a few minutes to view the IR 650 demo video......Now, let's say the graphics chipset has had it. Has burned up......Can happen..........Can happen just from the solder balls melting past their tension point, and oozing all over the Copper Pad area, on the motherboard........Now we have solder where it isn't supposed to be......Bye-bye graphics chipset......Bye-bye Southbridge chip, of the motherboard chipset, too!.....[The VAIO PCG-252L uses this motherboard technology,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mother... ) Or graphics chipset got overheated too many times, and went to the graphics chipset graveyard in the sky....(No, I don't know.......it just sounded good.....graveyard in the sky)........So, what method did you use to reflow the graphics chipset?

It works for 30 mins or so then out, reboot with some lovely green vertical lines in groups of 4 filling the screen. I think the machine was done when it was delivered to me. I cleaned enough dust and cat hair to fill a shoe box. It appeared to have been stored in a barn for a few years. At present it has been deligated to the parts bin. It was a barter for a laptop repair. No loss really, just a project.

    joecoolvette Apr 25, 2013

LOVELY green lines, AND you're complaining?........Sheesh!......(Lol!).......OH, the old 'stored in a barn' laptop trick........Umm, hmmm..........and go on.......You noticed a rash, and then..........NO, I'M JUST KIDDING! (Somewhere a cricket chirps....).......Hey, think of the things you could make with that cat hair......(NEW! Rope on a stick!..........You can twirl it........snap it...........do tricks, and amaze your friends!........You can even chase your friends down the street with it, and pretend you are Caesar.......Roman dufus........Tease the cat........tease your younger siblings........Lick the end, and make it stick to the wall..........New amazing - Rope on a stick - [ Made out of GENUINE barn cat hair!........Hurry while supplies last! ]

My pc cnt play downloaded videos

You can try downloading and installing VideoLAN Client as your video player. VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player andframework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD,VCD, and various streaming protocols. It plays pretty much everything without the need for tracking down codecs.

I hope this helps

Hardware is shown but dvd dont read

Here's a quick, easy and cheap solution to try: Get the VLC Media Player.

The newer dvd's often won't play on older machines. The easiest solution is to download and install the VLC Media Player. The VLC Media Player is an open source free player and can be downloaded here.

Often these kinds of problems are because of missing codecs or the type of security formatting on the DVD's one is trying to play.

Hope this solves the problem.

Problem is that my DVD combo TEAC-DW-224E-A reads cds but not DVD kindly help

Download VLC (google it) for free, see if that plays the dvd. Most likely your player has an issue, VLC plays ANYTHING (pretty much!) without issue.

If that doesnt work then you'll have a problem with the actual drive.

Hi 7 this is the tripping I have done what u recomended how ever it still fails to load any DVD's it will search for disk and eject it out I have never been able to use the dvd since i first bought this...

Hi Tripping,

In that case , the next step I would try is downloading some different software to see if that would work. There is a great open source DVD player called VLC. It is free and is supported on many different platforms. After you get VLC, put a DVD in the player and see if VLC will play it. You can get VLC here:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Hope this works for you.

My dvd writer reads cd but not dvd why

The wavelength of the laser is different, 780nm for CD and 640 for the DVD, there are two LEDs inside the optical unit. One of the two may be lame.

Change the optical drive, or at worst player.

However, the problem is easy solve and, what is more, the solution is free.

Download and install the free VLC from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/. Run it from the Start menu and insert the disc you want, and it should start playing the disc immediately. VLC can be used to play most other media files, such as downloaded videos. VLC is a powerful media playback application and supports DVDs and many other media file types.

My NEC doesn't read DVD's, DVD-RW and CD read good. Please help! Firmware 1.07 Windows XP

I assume that you are talking about movie DVD's; you need a 3rd party program that can play DVD's, or you need to install the proper codec's to play DVD's; because of fear of "monopoly" lawsuits, Windows Media Player in XP does not natively support DVD playback. You can either look for and install the necessary codec's, or you can download and install VLC player (among others) that have the necessary functionality built in. Try this link:

http://download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html

It is from download.com, and is tested to be malware free. Load the DVD in your drive, open "My Computer", right click the DVD drive, choose "Open With" and select VLC player.

Try using multiple DVDs and Also check the DVD region code if that may be causing the problem....Ensure that the media player you are using has the required codecs...VLC Player supports many codecs so check if that might be the problem VLC Player can be downloaded from www.videolan.org
