Question about Toshiba Satellite A205-S5823 Notebook

1 Answer

I purchased 2x 2GB DDR2 rams for my laptop (toshiba A205-s5823) but only one will work in the slots with a 1 GB in addition. I've tried every variation in both the slots. What am I doing wrong?

oh damn.... that sux. I remember reading somewhere...I think it was the toshiba website saying that I can upgrade to 4 BG of ram. Your comment and the fact that the laptop won't boot up with both 2 GB rams in there makes it a fact to me now.

I hope I can get a refund on one of them at least. It did speed things up a little though with the one 2 GB I have in there.

What is a Ready Boost? Is that When I insert in a blank Flash or SD card in there and it asks me if I want to use it to make my computer faster? If so is that limited to 2 GB in total also?

What do you mean by Per USB device? I can have all 4 slots plugged into 4GB flash drives? cuz that would look silly! o_O

    LOL.....

AHHHHhhh! I see! You are right. I should keep them for spare parts. I have a few things around the house I should put in the same drawer as that. THANX a bunch. =-)

Your laptop can only accommodate a maximum of 2GB of physical memory. If you are running Windows Vista, you can get a little extra memory by using the "ReadyBoost" feature that is built into the OS. I have done that in the past and it works well for me.

Here's a link to Kingston's (a good memory mfg) memory guide for your model laptop:

Let me know if that helps!

That's precisely what it does. If you have a USB 2.0 thumb drive, those work great and give the system a little bit of a boost. The most I tried personally was a cheap 4GB model I found at a local retailer, worked like a charm.

Let me clarify my last post though. 4GB is the limit on ReadyBoost per USB device I believe. In your situation you should notice a performance boost.

Silly looking, maybe, but it would not be logical to have more than just one. You should still use your 2GB stick you bought, and sell the other two on ebay, or keep them for spare parts. Speaking from experience, it's never a bad idea to keep a box of spare laptop/desktop parts lying around for emergencies.

Can the LG Xnote RD405 laptop intially with 1gb RAM be upgraded to 4 gb using two 2gb RAM's ? Please help me by providing an answer clearly, Thanks in Advance.

Here is the memory specifications from LG.

Maximum Size: Each slot is 1024MB and can be expanded to 2048MB.
SO DIMM Type for Memory Expansion: DDR2 SDRAM SO-DIMM (256MB, 512MB, 1024MB)

It can take a maximum of 2 gigabytes of ram. It will take two 1 gb sticks. It uses DDR2 laptop ram. You need to check to see if you have one stick that has 1 gb or 2 sticks that have 512 mb each. That will tell you if you need to buy one or two sticks of ram at 1 gb each. You will be able to tell a difference going from one gb to two gb of ram. I think it would be worth the investment if you plan on using the computer for another year or more.

How can I increase memory of toshiba Satellite A105

A RAM expansion slot is located on the bottom of the laptop behind a small panel. Remove the panel to get access to the RAM slot/s. It may have two RAM slots, if it has only one the the 1st RAM slot will most likely be located under the keyboard.
If the laptop has two RAM slots on the bottom of the laptop and the 2nd one is empty then you can add anothe RAM module. Try to get the same make and model as the original to double your RAM..
If both slots are occupied then you need to replace the existing RAM with larger capacity RAM modules.

I want to change the 2 x 512DDR ram by 2x 2GB DDR ram memories in my A205-S4577/Toshiba. Will it work?

hi,
it will work as your notebook is supporting maximum 4 gb RAM but please check that you are using 32 bit operating system or 64 bit one.
If it is 32 bit then the system will be showing 3.2 gb RAM only as this is the 32 bit os limitation.
