Most likely, and new LCD will fix your problems. Not real expensive, and pretty easy to install.

If the LCD is broken then it won't work. If the glass is broken but the LCD is fine it should work but isn't safe. You can visit our site CONTACT US for repair options.

Check monitor is set to correct input (VGA, DVI, HDMI) if it goes to sleep instantly.

Otherwise screen resolution is set too high. Boot into safe mode by pressing F8 during boot. Login and lower screen resolution.

Screen wont work Toshiba Satellite L555

It is sure that the screen/LCD panel is damaged and there is no option but to replace the whole unit.
If you are lucky check out on service shops for a scrapped L555 due to a mother board failure which would be reasonable.

My inspiron intel laptop screen has been darkening and flickering and I tryed to do what my laptop told me but it doesn't work is there another solution?

What did your laptop tell you?
Just curious

1) "Help, I'm being held prisoner inside this laptop"
2) "I'm tired, and I'm going to bed. Lights off"
3) "Use the Brightness control, and brighten this screen up"

An LCD screen does not produce light. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

An Inverter (Screen Inverter) is used to convert the power from the laptop, to the Backlight, and LCD screen.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the Inverter, when it's a Display Assembly issue.
The rest is a bad LCD screen.

The Inverter is a small rectangular circuit board.

It is mounted behind the Display Bezel, and at the bottom of the LCD screen.
{The Display Bezel is the thin plastic frame in front of the LCD screen. Resembles a picture frame)

Scroll the page down.
(The Inspiron 9400 and Inspiron E1705 uses the same service manual)

Suggest you connect a VGA monitor to the back of the laptop, to the blue VGA connector.
(Laptop OFF, external monitor {VGA} OFF)

You can use a VGA monitor that is a CRT. Looks like a small TV.
Or you can use a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

Turn the monitor on. If it is a CRT model, let it warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

The display should automatically be on the external monitor. If it isn't press, and hold down on the Fn key, then tap the F8 key once.
No? Tap the F8 key again. (Still holding down on the Fn key)

If the graphics (Display) is the same on the external VGA monitor, as they it is on the laptop's internal monitor, you have a graphics chipset problem.
Usually requires motherboard replacement, unless you know a really skilled tech.

If the graphics are fine on the external monitor, you have problems in the Display Assembly.

More than likely the screen Inverter.

Dell Inspiron E1705 Service Manual,

Pictorial guide for replacing the LCD screen, and the Inverter,

1) Use an ESD wrist strap, and connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source.
(I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case.
You can also connect to a unpainted surface of a metal table leg )

2) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.

If no multi-compartment container is available, you can use a clean egg carton as a substitute.
Label each egg holder.
Some screws look VERY similar to other screws.
DO NOT mix them up.

I have a dell 1520 inspiron.. and just now i found on the mid top of the screen a white horizontal line running from right to left side, facing the laptop.. i just want to ask what's the probable cause of...

Hopefully, pixels on the screen light-up ONLY when Windows tells them to light-up. However, you have some electrical problem inside the LCD screen, causing a "row" of LEDs to ALWAYS light-up.

So, your LCD is just "slightly" broken.

It's probably about $200 for a replacement LCD screen,
plus $60 to $75 for "labour" to replace it,
if the white-line annoys you too much.

I just broke my Dell's screen. something heavy for a lap top fell in, and the screen just went form the normal view to a lot of colored lines ( I don't know how to explain it well) . . . is it possible to...

1) These Dell's usually come "stock" with newer Sata HD's, where your data is stored. As soon as they "free fall" the heads lock, which should save all your data from problems. The HD won't have been damaged, and it sounds like the only thing that is broken is the LCD- if there are lines all over or even on part of the screen, IT CAN NOT BE FIXED. Regardless of what you hear the LCD will need to be replaced- or use an external monitor. Essentially, the impact/drop/falling item on it broke the internal element OF the LCD itself. Good news it's an easy fix. You can do it yourself or bring it to a shop. Ebay sells common LCD's for this kind of laptop.
2) To get your data off, you'll need to remove the HD and have an external 2.5" SATA hard drive enclosure for it as well as a 2nd computer or access to one (to copy the data to). Turn the laptop upside down, and look for the HD (hard drive) cover -it might have a little icon that looks a bit like a 3d-soda can, very small, engraved into the cover or close to it. You'll need a small philips screwdriver. (If you need help finding it, go to dell's website and DL the manual for the 1420 and look up "replacing the hard drive). Once you have the cover open, lift on the tab there (I think it's black- lift straight up once you've unscrewed anything close to it). Once the HD is out, you can unscrew anything attached to it (and pull that little plastic-and metal comb thing off- that's the right-angle connector -don't loose it, they're really hard to find). Plug in the HD to your 2.5" external case, and plug it into your 2nd computer. Copy the files across from your documents and settings/user name, as well as anything else you might want (again, your HD is probably ok, and a new LCD will get you back in business).

To note: you probably WON'T need a whole new LID, just the SCREEN itself. You CAN take these apart easily, though you will need to remove the power-button cover. The steps to replace the LCD yourself should be a different post, but are quite simple, and there is only about... 15-17 screws and a few cables, and you'll only need a philips screwdriver, a small flat screwdriver and the new LCD. Any dell 14.1" wide-screen LCD will work by the way. I'd look on ebay.

good luck and post if you want to try replacing the LCD yourself.

My daughter's dell inspirion 1000's screen has fuzzy lines--you can see the desktop, but the screen looks like it has a bad case of static-y lines. How can we fix this?

The LCD seems to be damaged ! If u have the warranty then u should check this out with Dell's customer service and if not than you should bring it to a repair shop and have them scan the LCD. The problem is more likely caused by something hitting the LCD , pressure on the screen or because of heat, due to heat the the cable connecting to the VGA might be burned. But to make sure if the problem is cause by the above problems or not, so , i want you to connect a monitor to the VGA port on the lap top
