If you have done a Factory Recovery, all your date is gone. You have formatted the HDD. You must start from the beginning, do all your Windows and eMachine updates. In Windows 7 you will find a folder, "Windows.old", after you have finished ALL the updates, do a Search for Windows.old, you will find SOME of your old data. If the Laptop didn't complete the Recovery process, try again. Where did you download the e728 Recovery disk from? Is it a boot disk? A ISO disk? You may have to contact eMachine support, using your Serial Number, order a Factory DVD to return the Laptop to Factory Settings.

Point 1. No Windows (gone) so no folder,,so no "Windows old". Point 2. Contacted Emachines and serial number isn't in their database,so can't download recovery disk. Go figure!. Point 3. Windows 7 won't let me re-install without a driver disk I don't have. Point 4. The whole problem began with an accidental restore to factory settings which left me with a brain dead laptop. During system recovery I can find a BOOT X: drive containing folders such as Setup/User/Program files etc but I can't access them.

Have you tried another HDD, and a reinstall of the OS? Try removing the CMOS battery and reconnecting. Sart the process from the beginning, open BIOS setup, set clock, etc. Try here for a Windows 7,(you choose 32 or 64bit) ISO download, burn to DVD and start from the beginning. You didn't point out where you obtained the Recovery Disk?http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows... Or why the Recovery in the first place?

Thank you!P.s What recovery disk am I looking for a eMachines RD or an Windows 7 RD? This has been drivin me nuts for weeks! Nobody I've asked seems to think the X:drive is the way to go!

Perhaps a friend with a computer can assist you with the download and burning a ISO DVD.You can use it as a Windows 7 Repair disk as well. As I stated you can download a Windows 7 ISO can be found here:http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows... This is a Installation/Repair ISO it will load over your old OS, your data will be gone except for the Windows.old folder. If you are bent on trying to recover your old data use the Disk as a Repair disk. Take a look at this: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...

SOURCE: I have a satalite 300

Hi,

try using ActiveBoot suite v5.0.5, when turnig on your computer. This program will scan your computer and show u all the errors, missing files, wrong dll,...and repair them. It worked very well for me as I had a TROJAN virus on my Toshiba satellite 300 and couldn't even boot anymore.
After that try use the RegistryBooster tool witch solves every windows problems.

I hope this will help. Good luck :)

SOURCE: recovery problem

first go with assumption that you can get ALT-F10 to start recovery-- if the error message gives an option to ESC. the next screen might be similar to an F8 boot screen with option to start operating system or diagnos memory. if a choice is ESC, escape. when the machine restarts, hold down ALT and tap F10 through the acer splash screen and a seccond or so after. recovery screen might appear. if the error screen appears, use ESC again and ESC the next menu until the machine restarts again and try the ALT-F10 to get the recovery.

my machine kept shutting off duing the windows first start after the recovery. upon reboot, i needed to start the recovery again. my shutting down was caused by a weak power adapter. went into a store and used a good power adapter and was able to use the ALT-F10 recover and windows loaded first time. solved.
but before i learned to ESC from the error message, i had thought i needed to fix the boot record by giving command "mbrwrwin.exe install rtmbr.bin" from the command prompt (using a boot disk created on a diff brand of computer) to get to a cmd prompt.) after all the effort, i think my problems with ALT-F10 would've been solved by using the ESC key! and of course a better power adapter.

SOURCE: hp compaq laptop how to restore to factory default?

Go to Start/All Programs/HP Tools/HP PC System Recovery

If this doesn't work then try pressing the F10 key multiple times during the bootup to access the recovery console.

If this still doesn't get things fixed then you need to re-install XP

I need format my hd

You can't format the HDD, or you don't have a operating system. You need a windows disk, recovery disk, or contact the MFG with your serial and see if they will send you a system disk or recovery and the windows serial.

Second, you don't format from NTFS to NTFS to clean a HDD, you use software like active killdisk, or one from the MFG of the HDD, WD has a tool cd, so do most.

My iomega external drive light is just flashing white and it's not recognised by windows 7

Windows 7 First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

Click "Start" button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the "Search" bar and press "Enter". Click "Continue" if necessary.

In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically. If the hard drive that has failed is the same one that you are trying to recover from might the reason that you are getting this error. This could be an issue where the part of the hard drive you are trying to access is corrupt and not accessible which would explain the reason that it would let you access the other partition. Now I have seen cases where Malware can break the link of a Hard Drive. So let's try a couple of steps. Let's go back in to "Disk Management" Lets right click on the partition that you are not able to access and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" Now try selecting a new Drive Letter. This will restore the path if it has been broken. There are also Data Recovery programs that might be very helpful to recover your important information. No problem! We can recover most Windows admin and other user passwords.
Just download our windows password Recovery Tool 3.0 to recover your lost Windows passwords.
How does it work?

Just use the box below to download the utility. This is a ".exe" file which will burn itself onto a blank CD. Then pop the CD into your locked PC, and
boot from the CD.

If you have an Internet connection on your locked PC then it will automatically upload the encrypted password to our server for decryption. Once
decrypted, we will send you an email advising you where to log in to view your Windows password.

If you don't have an Internet connection to your locked PC, you can extract the encrypted password to a USB stick and upload manually to our website for
decryption.

It supports usb flash drive too.

Forgot password to hp laptop how do i reset it.

I don't know what OS your HP laptop is installed with.

If it is Windows 8, Windows Password Hint, PIN code, Microsoft account can be used to login HP laptop. After logon successfully, change, recover or reset Windows 8 password is available.

If it is Windows 7, Password hint or another administrator account may help you. But if you don't have all of these, try password reset disk. Create it before Windows 8 locked or with Windows 8 Password Recovery tool is OK.
Besides these, Chntpw USB disk also works for Windows 7/Vista etc.
