There could be few reasons why this is happening. Let's an easy solution first.
Have you inserted the memory stick before turning on the camera?

Turn camera off, remove the battery, and the stick.
Then replace the battery and insert the stick. Then turn the camera on. Let us know how that works out.

Please try the sony version, sometimes the generic can be used but is not guaranteed to work correctly.

Just bent those two tabs about a millimeter down in your camera where you insert the memory stick.that two tabbs actually get straighter in the socket so when you insert the memory stick it does not get connected to the internal contact.in your camera where you insert the memory stick in that socket you have two mwtal contact tabs first just wiggle it with your hand and check out if they tend to loose internally then it might be internal loose soldering problem ,but if that are fit and firmly connected then just wiggle it up /down and reinsert the memory stick and check .still the same problem then belt it down in the lower position a millimeter you have to bent it so that the two metal tabs can contact the memory stick metal contact.and it will work properly.

It could be a contact problem, remove the stick & rub the contact points on a soft cloth, blew into the space into the camera that holds the memory stick to clear any possible dust, etc., and then reinset.

Here's the solution that finally worked for me. Take any lead pencil. Take the eraser and rub it on the gold contacts on the memory stick as if you are erasing writing on paper. Do this for about 30 seconds or more until you get all the gold contacts. Put the stick in the camera, switch to 'Setup', then turn the camera on. The ---reinsert the memory stick ---- error will automatically disappear. At this point, quickly format the memory stick using the camera's format feature. CAUTION: NEVER FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK ON OTHER CAMERAS, USING A COMPUTER WITH A MEMORY STICK READER OR USING WINDOWS XP WITH A USB CABLE PLUGGED TO THE CAMERA. IT DOESN'T WORK. FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK USING THE CAMERA'S BUILT IN FUNCTION ONLY.

The copper connectors inside the memory card slot have lost there ability to make contact with card itself. this Will happen over time. just to be safe, remove the batteries and let stand for 5 min. if the problem still exist, its the connectors that are not making contact with the card.

First try and format the memory stick. Then if that doesn't work try a new/different memory stick. If you still have problems your camera is most likely defective and should either be sent in for repair or be replaced. If you need further assistance let me know. Also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,

Turn the camera completely off, take the battery out and back in, then turn the camera on and insert your memory card, test your work and see if it reads it now. If not, then try using a different Memory card on the camera to see if it read it, or try reading the card on your computer to see if there is anything wrong with that SD card. in the end is either the camera or the Card who is not working, you just need to find out which one it is. So in the case that the camera is the one malfunctioning, try reseting the camera, and if it still giving you problems and a headache then contact Sony for troubleshooting and possibly consider a replacement. Good luck Sylvia, my girl has the same camera, we replaced it for LDC issued.

There is a little sensor in where the memory stick goes. (Very small). Find it and release it from what it is stuck on.

Its C:13:01 error

OK, so there are a lot of reasons that a C:13:01 can come up on your camera, but it is most likely that it is due to a problem with the memory stick. Try this: Get a pencil with an erase, take out the memory stick and rub where the gold contacts come out of the memory stick very gently. Try this for 15 seconds, or until the whole space has been covered. Reinsert the stick into your camera, move the function button over the the mode SETUP and turn the camera back on. That should shut off all error messages.

Good luck!

Hi I have a sony cyber shot camera when i tried to ON it The memory stick error appears saying " INSERT MEMERY STICK" inspite of memery stick is inserted also i get this error. And when i tried to format it...

Hi,

The Reinsert Memory Stick error message appears when the inserted Memory Stick is corrupted or not in a correct Format. This issue can be resolved by trying the steps mentioned below:
  • Remove and re-insert the Memory Stick in the Camera.
  • Check if the inserted Memory Stick is compatible with the Camera.
  • Format the Memory Stick in the Camera. Do not Format the Memory Stick in the Computer, as this will damage the Memory Stick being used in the Camera. The Camera will not detect the Memory Stick again, if it is formatted in the Camera.
  • Clean the terminals of the Memory Stick by using a soft dry cloth.
  • Remove the Memory Stick from the Camera and check if the Internal Memory is working fine.

You may also try power resetting the Camera. Power resetting can be done by removing the batteries from the Camera and then press and hold the POWER BUTTON of the Camera for 15 seconds and then reinsert the batteries after 1 minute.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks,

KenSolutions

Keep getting message to reinsert memory stick!!!! Help!!!

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC T70 and it keeps saying "Reinsert memory stick" whenever I turn on the camera or slide down the camera lid. Also, whenever I try to view the pictures on my laptop it shows "Please reinsert the memory stick" something along those lines. As I have been researching for the solution, I would have to format the memory card. However, I wouldn't want to lose the pictures as I just took many as from the holiday last week. The only problem is the memory card, I tried using another memory card and it works fine with the camera. There is nothing wrong with the camera.\r\nCan someone please help me how to solve the memory stick problem? It would be great. Ty.

Error message: Reinsert the Memory Stick"

The problem is with the memory card. It probably just shorted internally and is no longer useful. The amount of memory is not the problem, as I used a 4GB card for a long time and my card finally went bad. You will just have to get another memory card and MAYBE find someone to be able to retrieve your data.

Keeps telling me to reinsert my memory stick

I will forward a link to a page where you can get the information about this issue.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=C166567

Also please check whether you're using a Compatible Memory Stick with the Camera.

It's not recommended to Format the Memory Stick in the Computer.
The Memory Stick should be Formatted in the Camera only, other wise such error messages can occur.

Please try using a different Memory Stick and check whether the issue persists with the other Memory Stick.
This is to check whether the issue is with the Memory Stick.

your memory card has a virus! try formatting using camera. make it a habit that whenever you reinsert the memory card in your camera format it first before taking shots, this will erase everything including virus!
