Check the speaker/s. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. My GFA 555II amp blew the 2 left channel fuses while playing at normal loudness levels.

Fuses blow when there is a short circuit. All you need to do is replace the main output devices located on the heat sink. They are the ones that will have shorted most likely. Check your speakers and wiring for that channel. Any wire cross connecting will cause that kind of fault, likewise a faulty speaker.
Any engineer will be able to do this job, providing they can find the parts. But you can check them yourself by looking for the parts on the internet.

When tv is powered on tv only displaying channel number and sound -no raster. using video mode displays are ok. sound is also ok

Check and replace damaged component/s at its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. Check the input voltage to LOT. If the voltage is absent check the feeder resistor; if any. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. hello the likely problem of this could be the fuses along the audio output section, also check the mosfet transistor that controls the audio out, this can done by opening the back cover of the appliance and using an ohmmeter to read faulty component.... good luck

The remote to our TV is caput - has been for years - finally threw it away in a cleaning fit a few months ago - anyhow - now I can't make the tv go to componant 1 or componant 2 or input - so my DVD/VCR...

Unless the TV has an input select function available from the front panel buttons, you're out of luck. Many sets only have basic functions through the front panel and rely on the remote for the rest. The original remote had a button to switch the inputs and now you need it back.

The only sure solution is to buy an exact replacement remote. There are several companies online that can probably provide one. They tend to be costly, though. Your other option is to look for a universal replacement that has a button marked "input" or "tv/av" or similar, and hope it will work with your set.

One more option is to get an RF converter, available at TV retailers, Radio Shack, etc. This device takes the audio and video signals from another device and converts it to a channel 3 or 4 output signal that your TV can tune in. Then you can just put the TV on that channel. It would work, but you lose some picture quality and possibly stereo sound effects.

Sorry I don't have a happier answer. Thanks for using Fixya.

Not working on sound, but fine with channel

Try cleaning the side of the pcb where the rubber buttons rest on with a q tip soaked with acetone. You can also use methylated spirit. If this does not work, then there is probably an open circuit in the pcb or a component is not functioning. You need a multimeter and some knowlegde of electronics to test the components.

NAD 302 stereo balance problem

I would replace the output transistors of the bad channel and any very low ohm resistors associated with them.
Whilst youre in there replace the electrolytic caps in the power amp section. Caps are cheap and plentiful.
I dont know what the rest of the circuit looks like but there might be a need to balance the DC offset after replacing transistors.

matelectronics.com and audiolabga.com carry many good replacement transistors.

Sound Quality

Preferential Quality Connections in order of higher quality are: 1st>HDMI, 2nd>DVI, 3rd>Component/S-Video, 4th>Composite Video. Make sure you only use the surround setting on 1 of the 2 components, which ever is of better quality. If you use them both it WILL sound like mud. (older receiver-newer tv>probably tv) but you must connect all tv audio channel outputs to receiver. (newer receiver-older tv>receiver would be better)
Receivers also tend to have more wattage to drive larger speaker loads than most TVs. The key is to turn off the surround and SRS functions on the TV if you use the surround decoders on the receiver. Either way you use it, make sure you use the set-up feature to balance the outputs of the various channels for either source (the levels of the two will probably be very different).

Speaker outputs blown on 4 channel amp

the outputs should be replaced in pairs, there are 2 to 4 pairs, but you sould only need 1 pair replaced. these transistors typically range between 10 to 30 cdn each + labour, look for 1 to 1.5h to replace & test the unit after repair. check your local repair shop for their rates. good luck
