Fuel starvation, start by replacing the fuel filter in the tank, check the fuel hoses for leaks up to the carb.

Carb leaks fuel while running

If its a bowel type you could have a sticky needle valve. If its a diofram type, you could have a hole in the diofram.

Need diagram of fuel lines from tank to primer bulb and carburator on a Poland chainsaw model 1950 wood shark

There are 7 different types of the 1950 model (types 1 - 7) and it came with one of these 2 carbs Walbro or Zama. The carbs are different as are the fuel line connections for each one.
Although this video is for the promer bulb you can see the routing of the fuel lines.
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/article/4262/How_to_Replace_a_Primer_Bulb.html

You will have one line from the fuel tank connecting to primer bulb the 2nd line going to the carb. If you connect it backward it does not pump fuel into the carb.

Kelly
(FYI Types 1 - 5 all have the same fuel line routing.)

Where can I find a diagram for the fuel system ? I let a someone who new less than I did try to replace old fuel lines. it will crank and run untill carb. runs out of fuel.

An exploded parts list for a 4218 type 2 chainsaw follows (May not be your saw):

Poulan.com The IPL (exploded parts list) for your saw is the only detail for fuel line routing and it is sketchy at best. They are also beneficial with disassembly/reassembly. Fuel components and part numbers are listed but may be on different illustrations:

http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/PP4218-Gas-Saw-Type-2/75.PP4218-Gas-Saw-Type-2.1.59.1.html

The dash number of your serial number is the type.

A very good general diagram of a 2-cycle fuel system can be found here:

Poulan 306 chainsaw

Drain the fuel from the tank and inspect the fuel line inside for flexibility and overall condition. If the filter doesn't flop to the lower side of the tank when the saw is turned, the filter won't be lying in fuel to be picked up and the saw quits. Use original type rubber line for replacement, not plastic.
