Question about Gateway GT5056 PC Desktop

1 Answer

My icons and tool bars are so big nothing I bring up fits on the screen.....I can make the internet smaller with the mouse wheel, but it shows in a very small space because of the very large tool bars. Can't gert to the 'approved' part of the resolution because it is so large it doesn't fit on the monitor.

Here are some tips to help you move around when you can't see other parts of the screen
Alt + Tab (hold down Alt and press tab) will move you between open windows
Tab will move you from button to button and to the file menu at the top
Shift + tab will move you back, for example if you hit the tab key one too many times
Alt + F4 will close the open window, if no window is selected it will bring up the shutdown computer screen
F5 will refresh a page on the Internet
F11 will switch between Full Screen mode and not full screen mode
So try getting to the "approved" window and then using tab to select it.

Did you icons get big too? Pressing Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Scroll with make your icons bigger (also Right-Click > View > Large, Medium, Small). Did your resolution change? In Windows 7 and 8, you can check your resolution by right-clicking on the Desktop and select "Personalize". From there, select "Display" located to the lower left of the window. This should show you three options: Smaller, Medium, Larger. Choose the one you like the best. From here you can change your computers Resolution by clicking "Adjust Resolution" and select the one that shows you the most screen that you are able to still read. Most websites are designed to a minimum of 1024 by 768, so I would select at least that.

I can't download anything.

Are you using Internet Explorer? Just go to the top of the screen with your mouse and RIGHT click on the very top part of the screen. It should bring up a small menu, look for Menu Bar, and LEFT click beside it (it will put a small check mark beside it to show that the option is enabled). You can show or hide many of the info bars along the top with this method. If you pick one that you dont want anymore, just open the menu again and click on the check mark to unselect it. Did this help?

Perhaps you mean... How to change screen resolution. Here's a quick way.
1. Minimize all applications 2. Mouse over to a part of the desktop that doesn't have any icons 3. Right click on the mouse
Depending on the version of Windows, you'll select Personalize, Display Settings, or something like that
4. Slide the resolution bar to something that you like. 5. Click Apply, OK, etc.

Want to change the screen that is on when you turn the computer on with the toolbars on it....homescreen?

you mean the desktop. your mouse has two or three items where your fingers are. one is the left mouse button. another is a scroll wheel. not all mice have scroll wheels.the last item is the right mouse button. click this on your "desktop" a kool little menu with a selection that says "Properties" roll your little pointer to the properties word and LEFT click on it. this will bring up your awesum window that allows you to put pretty pictures as your background, change how big your icons are and change the colors and window colors. in this realm, be careful cause its dangerous! Caution!
