When ever I put in a DVD+R disk, the DVDR04 just ejects it. I hold it in and it will stay but then when I click "Record" it will not record and gives me an error symbol. I've tried three different types of DVD's.
You are using the right type Plus (+)R. So, I'd think, the unit is deffective. When I bought mine I had to take back to Walmart, and get it a different one because it was stopping me from recording my own recorded VCR tapes.
I had the same problem. On the front of the drive tray is a face plate. You can "pop" off the face plate by lifting up on it. On the back are two screws with springs attached. If you pull out on the face of the tray you will feel the springs attached. I loosened the screws to allow the tray to retracked further into the drive. This worked for me. If I could only get it to play my DIVX movies again now.

I had the same problem like this on my machine. The best way to fix it is to turn the machine off completely and hold on the eject button then turn the power on. You want the first thing the player does is to eject the disk without trying to read it first.
I hope it works let me know if it doesn't and i'll try and recreate the problem on my player and see what i can do to get the disk out.
The last resort is to manually take the disk out but lets cross that bridge if my suggestion above doesn't work.
Try this, look for a small hole on the front of the unit.Use a pin and press in to see if it opens, ejects the disk .If no hole try seeing if you can press ,lift, pull at the door/slot while pressing the open door/eject either on the unit or with the remote control. It sounds like you may have a bad CD/DVD (copy) that the unit is trying to read/load but can't. keep trying to eject CD/DVD if this doesn't work unplug unit for 5 minutes, try open door again do press and hold open repeatedly I know it's frustrating but it just may eject.Don't use this recorder for playback of DVD buy a $30 DVD player the cheaper the better they play anything.GOOD LUCK
I think your DVD player is trying to read the disk, but it can't. Try unplugging the unit. Holding down the eject button and plugging it back in. After it begins to to power up you can release the eject button. What your wanting to do is to get it to eject before it tries to read the disk. Good luck.
If assume that it will take the disk in, and then after about 10 seconds the disk returns to the open posistion.
if this is the scenario, on these units there is a switch located in the front of the DVD drawer that usually goes bad. This switch tells the Ilo that the drawer is fully closed. You may want to check and replace that switch. I own two of these units and both of these switches went bad.
Is there a small hole under the tray? Use a straightened paper clip and piu it in there and push, it should manually push the tray out. If there is anything on the DVD that looks like a computer program, the DVD may be trying to read it as a BIOS upgrade. The spindle motor may be bad too as the DVD is waiting for the platter to spin up to read it and is timing out.
inside the unit, when the carrier slides back in there is an infrared led and photo transister that detect the presence of a disk. it may be adjusted too far away from the carrier so its as if there isn't a disk inside. sometimes the four springs that hold the disk carriage are weak and the carrier is tilted away from the sensor. try looking at these springs.
