Kenmore 106.56566400 cooling problems

I bought the fridge a couple of weeks ago. It worked fine for about a week and then it stopped cooling. I found some responses on here and picked up the relay and everything was back to normal. Two weeks later, the same happened. I reached in the fridge to grab a beer and it was lukewarm. By the next morning the fridge was not cooling at all. I went and get a replacement relay, thinking that maybe it had shorted out(2 of the wires tied together had looked as if they were burned around the socket), but to no avail. The relay now kicks and nothing happens with the compressor. I know that sears offers a 5 year warranty, but when I called they said I needed to have the last name or phone number of the original buyer to make the warranty valid. I bought off of craigslist so there is no way for me to figure out either a name or phone number any longer. Is there a way to find out how old the fridge is by the serial/model #? If it is under warranty, are there any suggestions to getting around the original owner's information? I called and got a price of $241.00 for a compressor and wanted to know if that is fairly average. Thanks you for any help I can get.

If you found the previous owner, that would help, but buying a new compressor with out being sure that is the problem, is not helpful. It is possible that the start capacitor is defective. NOW in most cases the relay is part of what you may need. Something called a three in one relay may solve the problem. If the original capacitor could be taken to a refrigeration store and check to see if that is your problem first. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

The refrigerator side is not cooling and the freezer side is working fine. Two weeks ago this same problem occured and I moved everything to my backup frig and allowed the kenmore to defrost over night....

it indicates the problem with defrost timer.actually the defrost timer sends the command to defrost the ice formed inside the tube after every particular time interval.if the timer is wont defrost at all and the ice will keep clogging the tubes and so some sections of fridge wont get cooled due to clogged vents until its manually defrosted. to fix this problem you will have to get the defrost timer replaced.this will definately solve the issue.

Kenmore 106.56566400 cooling problems

for most kenmore refrigs there is a manufactureres date right on the model number tag. I am a sears service tech and I can assure you they dont need to know the previous owners info in order for you to get warranty service. if you cant find a mfg date on the model tag then go to this site and input your serial number in the whirlpool box and it will tell you when it was. manufactured.
Btw 241.00 would be about the price of the compressor alone with labor and all additional needed parts thru Sears it will run you close to 650-700 to repair. Thanks Peyton

Bottom freezer not working

Hi, sorry I do not have any advice to offer. We have the same model. Three weeks ago the red light came on and freezer stopped working. Last week the fridge packed up. We may have been unlucky but I thought it might be worth mentioning incase they were related and your fridge gave up as well.
