This is an indication of some bad solder connections on one of the boards. It could be the power supply board, amp board, or the digital board. I would like to be more specific, but this is not a common problem with those symptoms. Bad solder connection are a common problem and can cause many different unusual symptoms. Unless you have excellent soldering skills, it would be best to let a service center repair this for you. This is a very good receiver and is well worth getting fixed. If you have excellent soldering skills and are willing to take a chance on fixing it yourself you could save yourself some money, but be aware that if you make even one mistake while soldering, you could easily cause much more damage than you started with. Some of the components that may need to be resoldered are surface mounted IC's that are very difficult to resolder and if you have never done this before it is not a good idea to start learning how to solder on such a nice receiver.

Let me know if you need any further help.

Hi. I have a Hitachi SR 802 circa 1975, the protection light has come on. What action should I take? Thanks

I would think that would indicate at least one of the channels producing DC at the output and the protection is saving your loudspeakers.

You probably need to take it to a Tech, the service manual is here if you have skills in that area: Hitachi SR 802 Manual AM FM Stereo Receiver HiFi Engine

How can I connect it to get the most power out of it?

What load is the amplifier designed to drive? It will only deliver maximum power into the optimum load. The loudspeakers are probably 4 Ohms, but the amplifier may well be able to drive 2 Ohms per channel. This means that you need to fit two more loudspeakers This is probably not possible. Alternatively, if the amplifier can be bridged AND can safely drive 2 Ohms bridged or 1 Ohm per channel, you should connect the two loudspeakers together (+ to + and - to -) and connect them to the amplifier output terminals indicated for bridge (often Left + and Right + but sometimes Left + and Right -). If the amplifier can't drive 2 Ohms bridged, do not connect the loudspeakers together, buy another amplifier and connect one loudspeaker to each, with both amps in bridge mode.
Remember that loudspeaker and amplifier power ratings are always massively inflated in the manufacturers' data, often by a factor of 4 and sometimes by 10 or more. You speakers may not be able to cope with a whole amplifier each, so proceed with caution.

Hi, maybe you have speakers misconnected or speakers wiring with short circuit (joined bare cables), please check them because if this continues for a long time, your device could get damaged.

Marantz pm 7200 loudspeakers do not cut off when headphones pugged in

Some amps have a button which you press to mute the speakers when the headphones are plugged in. Sometimes marked "Speakers on off". If it hasn't then a new headphone socket would not be expensive to fit. As long as the amp producers sound I don't see any future problems. The previous owner may have used the headphone socket a lot, and simply wore it out!

Hello Sergio.

Sounds like a bare wire (speaker wire) most probably is touching your SR's metal body.

Remove all speaker cables, re-terminate them clean (cut, trim, and twist again) and then re-plug them in to the binding posts.

When you go puredirect, it overcoms some filtering circuits of the board and this should be the reason why it stops.

Try that & advise.

How powerful loudspeakers can my Onkyo TX-SV444 tackle, maintaining good sound?

buy 6ohms or 8 ohms speakers. 4ohms consume too much power and sometimes causes short circuit. (safety first!)
