Question about Fuji FinePix Z5fd Digital Camera
One day when i turned my FINEPIX Z5 camera on. The screen was not working. I then left if alone for a while. Then one day the screen worked again for about 2 hours. Now its black again? How can i fix this?
I can only offer advice if you're feeling adventurous which may lead to a solution. Intermittent faults are a real pain and could be located in any one of several places, however, the screen is fairly easy to access with a tri-blade screwdriver and a small pozi-driver. ( The tri-blades are available on eBay.) Remove the battery and memory card if fitted. The camera back panel can be released from the main body by removing 5 screws, 2 on each side of the camera body, and 1 on the bottom nearest the screen. Tease the camera apart but take care, because a flat ribbon cable joins the two parts. The 2 halves can remain connected but opened out, outsides face down. The screen is revealed. If you gently lift the screen with a fingernail on the opposite side to screen ribbon cable it can be lifted across revealing the ribbon cable socket. Your possible fault could be a poor connection to this socket, unlikely, but possible. Any sign of misalignment or incomplete insertion could be the problem.( The ribbon socket normally comes in white with a black clamping strip.) The ribbon cable is released by inserting a fingernail under the edge of the black strip away from the ribbon cable and gently lifting - the cable may then be eased from the socket. Just replacing and re-clamping may clear a connection problem but a quick wipe with clean tissue would help. Any signs of marks or heaven forbid corrosion, would need more attention. A second area for scrutiny is the backlight connection, which is a soldered connection adjacent to the main ribbon on the screen sub-assembly. To date, spare screen parts come as 2 sub-assemblies, the LCD, and the backlight. One or other of the soldered joints could be dry. The greatest of care should be taken if a soldering iron enters the equation. If this doesn't help, then return to Fuji repair centre. I have assumed that said camera is out of warranty and you've got nothing to lose.
