Same problem ? but with PS3 just out of warranty.
Disk would go in alright and eject but nothing else. Seemed the hard drive was faulty or something else seriously wrong? Wouldnt turn off either.
My fix was check all connections.
Turn off at back leave a moment, turn back on
and hold down on/ start button till beeps twice (about 3 secs)
Menu came up
Select 2 on menu and reset default.
Everything works again . PHEW.
Hope this helps.

My ps3 will turn on but there is no signal on the tv and the hdmi cord is hooked up it will say weak or no signal

Try to reset your settings.
Plug in both AV and HDMI cables.

Press and hold the power button until the systems shuts off. (wait 2 seconds)

Press and hold the power button again until you here 3 beeps. Let go. Make sure that you are switching your TV from HDMI to AV and vice versa.

It should ask you to connect your controller via usb and press the PS button in

the middle of your controller. There will be a menu with 6 options.

Try 1.

If you are able to get the AV cables to work with this method, try setting your HDMI up as you did before.

If you cannot get HDMI to work, then your output has gone out. You must use the AV/Component cables.

If you get no display at all but the system appears to be responding normally (outside of the display) then:

You have what is commonly known as the "Green light of Death."

It is when your system powers on and acts normally but no display. Your GPU (graphics chip) has cracked or become damaged and will need to be sent in to SONY. You can try a 3rd party technician, but this repair has a very very low success rate.

My dog chewed the power cord on my ps3 while it was on and it triped the breaker in my house ,i got a new power cord but now the ps3 powers up but cant get the hdmi cable to work to tv

It may be possible that he has caused a power outage that disabled your HDMI output. It is a common problem, both HDMI and AV outputs will go out.

Can you get a display with AV cords (if you haven't tried, get them ready)
You may be faced with a problem that will cause you to use AV or Component cables. (recommended if HDMI output is out)

Comes on but blank screen

Perform the following steps to reset the Video Output Settings.
  1. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the HDMI OUT port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI Input port of the TV or display monitor.
  2. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive power button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light --> green light --> then back to red light). This will ensure that you have held down the power button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  3. Turn on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

I recently downsized tvs from hdmi back to a regular one...I plugged in all the quired cables correctly, and the power works, the playstation runs, but it wont show up on the screen. Got any suggestions?

Hi,

If you are sure that you have set up the cables correctly for the non HDMI connection then do the following;

Turn off the ps3 and then power it back on by holding the on/off touch switch for at least 5 seconds until you hear the console beep a second time.

This should reset the video/audio to default and should resolve the problem.

Hope this helps. If you continue to have problems leave a comment and I will be happy to respond.

If the issue is resolved please do leave a vote for the solution. Thanks

Ps3 is not responding, tv works, had it with an hdmi cable and now i have it with the standard wiring it came with and still no response

Well if you switch it to the AV cables you need to reset the video output. This is easy just turn the system to off/standby where only the red power light is on. Then hold the front power switch till it turns on beeps twice and then shuts down again. Then just turn the system on regularly.

Ps3 not working

  • Check that the input mode of the TV is appropriate for the connector in use on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
  • There may be a problem with the cable in use. Try using another cable that is compatible with the PLAYSTATION®3.
  • If the video output settings on the PLAYSTATION®3 do not match those of the cable or TV in use, there may be no picture. If the screen goes blank, turn off the system.
  • Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.
if that does not work then call Sony at

Ps3- hdmi to av

unless there is a switch on the ps3 itself to change to normal tv, you may have to reconnect the ps3 via HDMI and change the screen resolution back to 480p or change the settings in the setup from hdmi to av.
