The latch on the door is held by two screws loosen these adjust and then tighten, until you get it right, good luck.

Hello,
first i will suggest you to check why the door is'nt closing properly, so pls check the following:

Latch The latch on many dishwashers is adjustable. If your door is easy to close but difficult to latch, adjust the latch to let the door close more easily. If you can't see any way to adjust the latch, yours may be fixed in a certain position. Check for other reasons for the latching problem.

If the latch has worn out in a way that makes it impossible for you to close the door properly, you probably need to replace the latch.

Springs Your dishwasher has two springs that counterbalance the weight of the door. If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy and you need to replace both springs.

Hinges The hinges are important to the door closing properly. If they're bent or deformed, you probably need to replace them. Once bent, only rarely can they be straightened well enough.

Door seal If your dishwasher is new--or if you have just replaced a door seal--the door may be difficult to latch for a week or two. If the tightness persists, though, try adjusting the latch, if it's adjustable. If it's not adjustable, there's probably nothing you can do immediately. But try running the dishwasher on the highest heat cycle to help the seal conform to the door. Otherwise, the seal should compress over time.just let know for nay updates....

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR LATCH ON YOUR DOOR IS BAD OFTEN WHEN YOUR DISH WASHER IS DEAD THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM ITS INTEGRATED WITH YOUR DOOR SWITCH SO I'LD SAY THE FIRST THING TO CHECK IS LATCH TO YOUR DOOR

The door switch is important because, if it's defective, the dishwasher won't work at all. To reach it, you need to remove the control panel cover, or sometimes the interior liner of the door. If it's defective, you need to completely replace it.

Hi, if the warranty is still good, i recommend returning this unit. this is a manufacturing flaw. bad design. this unit will not run unless it is securely closed. with this manufacturing flaw present, you will not be able to use correctly.

Sorry above solution is incorrect since I first thought you were talking about a washer. As for your dishwasher:

  • Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker
  • Check that the dishwasher is plugged in securely
    or
  • Inspect the wiring connection to the dishwasher for burns or breaks.
  • Check the door latch
  • Test the door switch
  • Test the timer motor
  • Test the selector switch
  • Test the motor start relay
  • Test the motor

Latch isn't catching properly

Is the little switch that is in the door worn out. If the tip that pushes in is worn or broken the switch won't go in far enough to work properly. Also see if you have loose screws that will need tightening up.

Older model (unknown) Whirlpool Dishwasher. Door latch failure. Dishes trapped inside.

You may have to break the little handle off to open it and order a new door latch mechanism. Just be careful. This is a lip latch so it wont be hard if you can get to where the latch connects. Use the internet and model to order new one.

Does it help to push it more tightly shut...or fiddle with the latch.
Mine is not running consistently unless we push the door shut tightly. Others here also report problem with the safety latch causing this washer to quit. May have to replace the part.

Door Interlock switch Maytag MDB4100 dishwasher

If the door is not latching well enough try adjusting the spring on the tub it's the male part that goes into the door latch. If that doesn't help you need to replace the latch. It's inside the door. The switch is mounted to the latch in the door so to get to it you have to remove all the screws around the outside edge of the inner door panel. Unhook power before replaceing latch or switch!
