Question about Alps MD 1000 Thermal Printer

1 Answer

Lines in the printing

I have an Alps MD-1000 dry printer. It is used for making waterslide decals. It has the ability to print white. My problem is anything over 1/2 inch tall requires two passes with the print head. The second pass leaves a small empty line between the two passes. Where and how do I adjust this problem?

Same problem with the "missing" line 10mm apart.
Have followed book & cleaned head & platten but no change to problem.
Have removed cover but can not find anything obvious to "fix".

Join the Yahoo Group for Alps printers. There is a lot of information there. Have you cleaned the print head? Refer to the Users Guide for how to do it. Lines in the printer output can indicate a bad printer head.

That is a low band printed count for any ALPS printer.

My problem is in my Alps MD 1300. Two layers of white print without problems, but when I print CMYK over white horizontal lines appear about ruining my work. I use "white Based (MDC-OPWH)"...

The MDC-OPWH is Opaque White. It's meant to be used as an overcoat when making things like Iron-On transfers when they are applied on dark backgrounds. Regular white is used for undercoating for things like waterslide decals.

Can our ALPS MD 1000 printer work with Windows 7? We used it when old computer had Windows XP on it, but that crashed and bought HP with Windows 7 now... we need Alps to make waterslides for custom rod...

There are NO Windows 7 drivers for the ALPS MD printer. I've read that you can run an XP virtual mode on Win7 that allows you to use the printer. If you are comfortable tweaking the OS, it's a workable option. I picked-up an old (and cheap) laptop on Craigslist and printed my decals from there.

You could try using spot colors for each layer of the decal. This gives you the highest resolution.

White ink printing with alps MD 5000

To print white, you need to use the spot color option in the printer properties. The object to be printed must be all black. It seems counter to what you might think, but the spot color mode will print the solid black areas as the selected spot color.

My alps md 5000 doesnt seem to be printing decals as clear as it

these printers are flaky. There is a reason why the mainstream never picked ALPS up. The image quality stinks and the printer break down constantly. Koolaid drinkers in search of the grail love them.

Alps md 1300 only prints in black

First of all, Alps MD inks do not "Dry up". They are dry to start with!

It sounds like you may be running XP, with the Microsoft driver for this printer installed. You need to load the Alps driver, which you can get by joining the alps or alpsdecal group at http://groups.yahoo.com. You can find the driver in the files section of one of the groups.
