Device settings > Synaptics touchpad > settings > virtual scrolling > untick the "enable vertical scrolling" box.

The "enable horizontal scrolling box should be there too.

  1. Press the Scroll Lock (sometimes appears as ScrLk) key on your keyboard.
  2. If your keyboard does not have a Scroll Lock key, on your computer, got to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Ease of Access, and then click On-Screen Keyboard.

Tip

Two must know usability tips for Mac Laptop users

Here are two general usability tips that every Mac laptop owner must know about. How to simulate a right click with your trackpad, and scrolling through documents much like a scrollwheel. I have long assumed these were common knowledge, but I’ve heard enough complaints and wishes and had to demonstrate them to enough people to prove otherwise. So if you don’t know about these two trackpad features, then you do now, and once you start using them, it’s impossible to go without.
  • Right Click with Trackpad - Hold two fingers on the trackpad while you use the click button
  • Scroll through pages a la Scroll Wheel with trackpad - Place two fingers on the trackpad and move them up to scroll up, and down to scroll down. Works horizontally as well.
If these features aren’t working for you, they are probably disabled. Here is how to activate them:

Note: Several of our readers have pointed out that these tips are not compatible with some older PowerBook and iBook models. However, a program called iScroll2 enables the scrolling ability on these models. Get iScroll2 here. Thanks to all who pointed this out!
To activate these options (assuming they are turned off), go to Apple menu -> System Preferences. Navigate to the ‘Keyboard & Mouse’ preference pane under Hardware. Click the Trackpad tab. Under Trackpad gestures, be sure that “Use two fingers to scroll” and ‘Place two fingers on trackpad and click button for secondary click’ are checked, as shown in the screenshot below. If resetting the S doesn't fix it, get it replaced or repaired under their warranty.

The scrolling on my msi netbook's trackpad isn't working, I keep sliding up and down the right side of the trackpad but nothing happens?

On the msi netbooks to scroll it doesn't work like most of the other netbook trackpads. The scrolling feature works like arrow buttons, you have to tap the top right corner to scroll up, or the bottom right corner to scroll down. It takes getting used to.

The scroll bar in my laptops' touch pad isn't working.

The scroll on your laptop is controlled by the trackpad installed on the system.

If you are having problems with the scroll on your laptop's trackpad, there is something you can do before you take it into a computer repair shop.

Updating the driver to the trackpad will enable the scroll if it is not working at all.

Once the driver is updated, your scroll should work again.

You can access the driver through the Device Manager on your laptop.

Click the "Start" button, then click the "Search" option.

Type "Device Manager" into the search bar and press the "Enter" button.

Click on the "Device Manager" icon from the menu, then scroll down to the "Track Pad" icon on the left side of the screen.

Click on the icon, then click the "Driver" tab at the top of the window. Click the "Update" driver option from the window.

Wait for the new driver to install on your computer.

This should take about two minutes to complete.

A window will appear telling you that the driver has been installed.

Put your fingers on the touchpad to move the mouse around on the screen.

Hope this helps.

My cursor on my HP doesn't work. don't want to use a mouse.

i'm sure that there's a button to lock the trackpad,it's near the panel.you need to press it once again to turn the panel on
I think it's right above the trackpad
or look on your laptops keyboard for a picture like trackpad press it with the function Fn button at the same time
or it should be the hardware
the trackpad cable maybe doesn't installed properly, not locked or something

Scroll on mouse pad was working is not any more

Well it any of the following: cable inside the laptop has come loose from the trackpad, you (or someone else accidentally disabled the trackpad) or that the trackpad has gone bad. Try to hook up an external mouse (for the time being) to allow you to either change the mouse settings, or use your computer until you can get the trackpad replaced/repaired.
