This can only mean one thing that the wireless adapter is already bad and needs a replacement, you can get a external wireless adapter...

Why not perform a system restore back to when you know the wireless connection was working. That's the first thing I would try. It might not help but, heck, it sure couldn't hurt and it well may solve the problem.

Its has something to do with your built in wireless card. If it's not listed under device manager, your built-in wlan card is already not functioning. Here's what you can do.

1. At the bottom of the laptop right under the wireless switch, you can see there a cover that you can unscrew. That is where the WLAN card is plugged in. If you can unscrew it, you can try to unplug and replug the wireless adapter there.

2. Another option if you can't do the step above, you can simply buy an external wireless notebook card so that you can still connect wirelessly.

3. If you don't wanna buy a separate wireless notebook adapter, claim your warranty because your WLAN card is already defective.

Hi, Does it at least show as some unknown device in Device Manager? if not, card is defective. You have to replace or check its connections.
If so see, Goto HP website and download the specific driver and install.
Good Luck.

I'm going to assume you have turned your laptop off and back on again. Then you looked at the device manager and can't see your card.
Can you see an ethernet peripheral with a question mark by it?

If so, right click on it for properties and select install driver. Navigate to where your driver is and install it. Then power cycle your laptop again and see if it finds it.

If you can't see the question mark in the device manager, then I would physically remove the card again and try to reseat it in the slot and reconnect it. Maybe it's not seated in the slot correctly.

Let us know how that goes.

Drivers aren't going to help you in this case. The adapter is bad news, and your going to have to get an external solution (external adapter).

Try downloading and installing updated drivers, if you have XP you will not find the drivers on HP website.

If nothing works, buy an external LAN card for few dollars here:

If you can use the cable connection
you can search for a new driver for the lan card for vista here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/pfinder?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&tool=&query=F700+#N284

Try using the auto detect function it will tell what model
you have.To get the right driver.

Also try use the microsoft update function
in your start button.

Hope this was helpfull.

Wireless internet access not working; getiing orange led

Anyone having a wlan/wireless problem with a compaq F730us, please report it to HP corporate headquarters and HP/Compaq. The problem is with the mainboard, its a manufacturer problem. Only HP/Compaq can fix this for free, but we have to let them know that the F700 series is also having the same hardware issues as the f500 and other series. Here is a link to hp website so you can see that hp is aware of the problem, we just need to get the f700's added to the list.

Here is also a website for people everywhere experiencing the same problems w/compaq wireless not working. HP/compaq needs to correct this.

From User manual you can download from HERE:

1) activate your WLAN :
Press and hold the Fn button, and then press the F11 button
repeatedly to enable or disable the Wireless LAN or Bluetooth function recurrently.

2) Check if "Wireless LAN LED indicator glows green when Wireless LAN function is enabled."

WLAN Driver

Get new drivers for the lan card from the lan cards web site...its not the XP OS problem...it is a problem with the drivers for the card...the one that XP is assigning to it is not an exact match.
