Have you run your virus scan in Safe Mode?

Have you tried to set it back to " last known configuration" from the menu ?

Run a chkdsk or a WinXP repair:

Take the Windows XP disk. Boot from it, then DO NOT select F2 (automated system recovery) but continue through the procedure until you get to the point where you can choose between installing Windows XP and entering the Recovery Console. Once you get into the Recovery Console, do chkdsk and fix potential errors on your disks! chkdsk C: /R

    XP repair

When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your Applications or data; it just reinstalls the Windows files. This is great because when it works you don't need to reinstall all your software.

Let me know if I could assist you further.

Windows startup

Go to Run (either in your Start menu or by pressing the Windows key plus the R key) and type msconfig
Click on the Startup tab and uncheck everything (disable all button will do this quickly) then click ok and reboot. The next startup should be considerably quicker. I would also recommend running a virus scan with Malwarebytes free version. Also install CCleaner and run it. Also, go into Control Panel then Programs and Features, and uninstall anything that you are sure you dont need.

Gateway Gt5412 virus has taken over my administrator rights what can i do

The first thing you need to do is restart your computer and directly after the BIOS screen loads press F8 until you get a Windows menu. In this menu, navigate to "Safe Mode with Networking" and press Enter. It'll take a couple of minutes to load the drivers and present you with the log in screen. Go ahead and log in, and open a web browser and download Malware Bytes from:;1.
After it is done downloading, install it and let it update the virus definitions. When this is done, run the program (You don't need to start the trial) and run a full scan. Any infected files will be listed and the program will let you remove them. After the files are removed, Malware Bytes will probably ask you to restart your computer. Go ahead and do so and let it boot normally. Log in and see if the virus is gone. If not, reboot into safe mode, start up Malware Bytes again and do another scan.
I hope this helps!

I'd do a virus scan. I have seen some very tricky viruses that make it look like there are more serious problems but the only real problem is the virus.

If it really is an error you might see evidence in the event log.
Have a look in controll panel Admin tools.

Sound of my computer

go to and download 'Hijack This!' self installer. Save it to the desktop or other suitable place. DO NOT just press run from the website Double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu.
Click on the entry in start menu to run HijackThis
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.
