Have you run your virus scan in Safe Mode?

Have you tried to set it back to " last known configuration" from the menu ?

Run a chkdsk or a WinXP repair:

    chkdsk

Take the Windows XP disk. Boot from it, then DO NOT select F2 (automated system recovery) but continue through the procedure until you get to the point where you can choose between installing Windows XP and entering the Recovery Console. Once you get into the Recovery Console, do chkdsk and fix potential errors on your disks! chkdsk C: /R

    XP repair

When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your Applications or data; it just reinstalls the Windows files. This is great because when it works you don't need to reinstall all your software.

Let me know if I could assist you further.

Starting point would be to turn the computer right off including taking out the battery unplug the power supply wait a while and then reconnect power supply and restart holding down the key that allows you to enter the BIOS. Reset the BIOS to default settings and then restart. If this works then reinsert the battery and hopefully this will fix your problem.

Trying to update bios on HP ze2315us Says I cant do it without being logged in as admin. I am logged in as admin, tried safe mode, went into bios set up and I have the password for that also, no luck....

I would reinstall the operating system just for the fact you bought it from an untrusted source (ebay). You never know what they could have installed or what settings they could have changed. I am looking at this from a security point of view. Not all rouge programs will be caught with a virus scan. They could of also set up legit windows applications to allow remote access at a later time. From your description, this computer does not seem to be anywhere near "default" or factory condition.

After a reinstall, try updating your BIOS again and see if that cpu driver still exists. You have already tried my tricks for running programs that want admin rights even when logged into an admin account...well most of them anyways.

Here are two other routes to try.
1.Update the BIOS before windows loads, don't use a windows based program. Do it from the command line.

2. Enable the default administrator account (if disabled) and log into it and try your software from that account. This account is visabled when you boot into safe mode.

Hope this helps.

Computer loading up but not logging on..

This has happened because of a Microsoft update:

In Safe mode (F8 at boot up)
Start-search for cmd
With search result -cmd- right click choose option Run as Administrator
type in- net user administrator/ active:yes
type- exit
restart- pc logon screen should show administrator account
if you can logon through this account, alter any accounts you want through control panel

Administrator problems

You may be the primary user but your user account may not have admin rights. This is a little unusual in Windows since most users have admin rights by default (this isn't a good security practice, but Windows tends to do this anyway).

I did a quick search of the web and discovered a set of instructions that will allow you to log into your Windows computer (assuming you have Windows XP) with admin rights. Once you do, run the software again and see if it works. If it does, you're ok. If it doesn't then the problem is with the HP software and not your user rights. Good luck:

Administrator log in problem

Log in using the account name "Administrator".
If you do not have the password, reset it and try again.

Another option is to use " runas /USER: admnistrator install.exe " in a cmd window.
to launch the install program under admin account.
