Question about Dell Dimension 4600 PC Desktop

Distorted audio from pc dvd-rom playback

Hello,
Whenever I place a cd or dvd into my pc and get it to play, be it on realplayer, VLC, windows media player etc. I am getting a picture but the sound is distorted (sounds like an crackly echo is the nearest I can describe it).
Once the cd/dvd is ripped and on the computer the sound is correct and all works fine.
I went out and bought a new dvd drive and this has changed nothing.

I have also gone into as many of the audio settings on the computer as I can find but to no avail.

Any ideas would be great as I'm about to throw it out of the window.

Cheers

It seems you don't have any codecs... The problem is not in windows media player.
Just install a codec pack like http://www.free-codecs.com/download/codec_pack_all_in_1.htm

Hope to solve your problem.

SPEAKERS FAIL BY VLC

VLC is an open source media player. It will play cd's and dvd's and it will play videos that Windows Media Player has a problem with. VLC comes with drivers and codec and i've seen it solve issues with audio and sound that Windows Media Player had a problem with.

No sound from the audio when playing back

To work around this behavior, use digital output or analog speakers.

To switch to digital CD playback:
  1. Start Windows Media Player.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Devices tab, and then click Properties for the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive that you are using for playback.
  4. In the Playback section, click Digital.
  5. Click OK, and then restart the playback.

My DVD drive can read a CD-ROM and play an audio CD, but it cannot play a DVD

Your computer is missing a DVD decoder software. Simply download and install VLC media player and K-Lite codec. Both are free download. You will find the download link by simply doing a google search.

DVD CD audio is garbled and sounds "skippy" o garbled

DvD playback can be a result of dirty lens on your dvd player and bad driver updates from your dvd program vendor. if this is the problem try to check back when you think it started and see if you had any driver updates or software update. use a good dvd cleaner and then check the results.
You can look in the event veiw. Go to my computer right click and than click manage you will see the event viewer and it will show you any conflicks that have happen. if it is a driver conflick remove the driver and it should fix your problem.

Playback stutter

Realplayer is ok for small .wav files and for browsing videos on the internet, but for watching a dvd i would use either Power DVD or Windows media player as they have all the supported sound and video codecs Some media players have truoble reading different dvd depending on how they were burned or the file quality.
