Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet

Toshiba Satellite charging problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A205. I have had it for about a year and a half, I believe. For a while the charger was working fine but every once in a while I would have to shake it around to get it to keep charging. Now, it is completely dead. Even when I plug in the charger the computer does not charge up or respond at all. Is there any way for me to find out if it is the cord or the computer? Any help would be great, thank you.

Since you used to have to shake the computer to get it to work, my first guess would be that the power connector inside the laptop has became loose. Unfortunately this can be very difficult to repair. It usually requires completely disassembling the laptop and resoldering the connector.

However, if you can find someone with a laptop that takes the same charger - or if you can find a PC repair shop that has one they will let you test with - you can test it that way.

This sounds like the power connection on the motherboard, I have fixed a few of these, you have to be very careful when re-soldering stuff back to the motherboard, but it can be done. But as derek mentioned try to find someone who has a similar laptop and try using their power adapter to weed out possibilities.

My battery charges but only lasts about 20 minutes once it says it is fully charged. Just purchsed a new battery thinking it was old (laptop is about 3 years old) and the same thing happens.

From what you describe and assuming the new battery was "new", I'd say you have an internal short which is draining the battery over a short period of time. I'd also investigate the accuracy of the battery charge indicator. Download this free utility which will give you a more accurate picture of your battery:

I'm assuming you gave the battery a "commissioning charge" when you bought and used it?
If not, this is something you should do with all new LI batteries. This bit is reproduced from a website that sells batteries for the Toshiba satellite series:

"2. The new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack needs to be circled (fully discharged and recharged) three to five times to reach its optimum performance.
3. Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery will undergo self-discharging when left unused for a long period of time. Thus, it should always be stored in a fully charged state and kept in a cool, dry and clean place.
4. It is normal if the new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery gets warm when being charged or used. However, please pay special attention if the battery pack becomes excessively hot. This may indicate there is a problem with the charging circuit of the electronic device. Please consult a qualified technician if necessary.
5. To maintain the optimum performance of Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack, it is highly recommended to circle (fully discharging and recharging) it at least once a month.
6. New batteries are hard to be charged. Sometimes, your electronic device may indicate a fully charged condition about 10 to 15 minutes when Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack is being charged for the first time. When this happens, remove the battery pack and let it cool down for about 10 to 15 minutes then repeat the charging procedure. Sometimes, the new Satellite a205-s4777 battery will suddenly refuse to be charged. If this happens, a suggested solution is trying to remove the battery from the device and insert it again. "

When i plug in my toshibba satellite a205, the plug light turns on, but the batery charge lights flashes just once, then goes off. my battery says 2%, not charging. is it a battery or combination laptop...

True turning it on while pluged in but without the battery in. If it works its your battery if not it is you charger or laptop, my bet is on the charger they have a tendancy to go out.
